It also doesn't seem to want to play nice with Comodo 5.8 beta.

I hope this one is easier to uninstall. The last one had me going to Revo Unintaller to get rid of it.

They had the stand alone before and abandoned support for it.

How many processes did they eliminate? Is ram usage down, or did they just consolidate?

Just purchased a license for Internet Security. Really like it. They did an awesome job.

I installed without unneeded options like the gadget, mail guard, toolbar, etc... It's 6 processes, and uses about 15meg of ram. More processes but less ram than some other popular freebies.

Good Evening ! Briefly tried AVG 2012...and in all fairness I like the fact that they've reduced some of the bloat factor, but in a full scan on my system it ran over an hour and fifteen minutes semi respectable but not convincing enough. It also had a lot various prompt's asking you to upgrade...a little irritating. But not enough to pry me away from Avast or Avira Security Suites. Sincerely...Securon

Identity Protection is a behavior blocker, which will monitor processes that misbehave. It should provide a layer against unknown malware.

Do you need it? I suppose it depends on what your security setup is. If you already got a HIPS or behavior blocker or SRP/AppLocker/other anti-executable, I don't think you'd need it.

But, that's a decision you need to make. :)

I just successfully installed the AVG 2012 Free in a VirtualBox XP VM (not all AVs do for some reason). 150 MB is a large installer to download on a slow DSL connection, but not a problem if I carry it around on a flash-drive. It would be nice to know how it runs on older PCs with 512mb of ram. They tend to suffer the most degradation when you add AV.

Edit: I don't like all the marketing in the main GUI to upgrade to their paid products. If I had to look at all that advertizing everyday it would be enough to make me get rid of it. Fortunately the GUI can be ignored most of the time. Avast seems to be less annoying in this regard.

These are the processes while it's scanning.'Till now it seems that the scan is really faster.

    You certainly want it.
AVG their static heuristics plainly suck and they don't have any kind of advanced heuristics (emulation and behavior analysis) as far as I know. AVG rely relies on old-fashioned signatures.
All the good parts of the product (which make it worth considering it) are bought from other companies: LinkScanner and Identity Protection.

Outpost Suite and Avast Suite feel a lot more lighter than AVG free in my laptop. Ram hits 1.13 gigs constantly while i had the previous AIS and OSS it only got up to 900 as maximum while scanning or downloading things. It is not a big deal but after a few hours it never got down at all

I'm trying 2012 Pro on an Athlon 1.4GHZ PC with 1GB RAM.

I couldn't find the System Requirements for 2012 Free but these for Pro seem a bit higher than necessary. http://free.avg.com/au-en/download-avg-antivirus.
EDIT: Can't link to actual page. Screenshot added below.

    Initial full scan was fast.

Pro has IMAP SSL capability. Anyone know if it's also in the Free version?

I don't know about free version, but in pro you can.Actually i hated too that even in the 2011 pro version all that stuff was "suffocating" the GUI.But not now,and that's another +.
