wat are your views on avasts firewall and how effective is at being a pure firewall, if i put it into manual mode and turn off the auto decide function, can avast's firewall be comparable to outpost firewall in PURELY firewall capabilities?

and does avasts firewall have SPI?

As an outbound blocker, avast! firewall is an augmentation to the AV. With default settings, if the AV (sigs, whitelist, behaviour, etc) doesn't stop something, the firewall will make a rule allowing it.
That said, if you turn off auto-decide, fast checksums, and switch to Public Zone, it should tighten things up quite a bit - and you should expect a few questions!

    +1
i tried too - either nothing or fail. (return to malware defender)
from my view - no necessary feature within avast.
need 64bit? try outpost or online armor again.

It's as good or better than any other firewall when it comes to pure firewall capabilities.

As an actual firewall, i.e. stealthing ports, even Windows XP firewall is more than adequate.
