Exatly my thoughts, maybe Avast should go GUI less text based or use ancient Windows 3.11 skins.

Why would one bring down a legitimately good AV because they don't like the skin is beyond me.

Anyways this is the skin I use.

I an running the latest version of avast and I am having a problem with it starting slow. There is a red circle with a slash mark that is in the icon in the system tray. It finally goes away and then I can open programs. I did a repair to avast and I still have the problem.

Arup, that skin is brilliant. :)

Bamaman66, you might have to list what other programs you have running. Something might have prevented the program from installing properly. Otherwise an uninstall, reinstall might be needed.

Was any other AV installed prior to Avast? How was it removed?

bamaman66, please right click on the avast! tray icon and go to Program Settings... > Troubleshooting. See if there is a checkmark on Delay loading of avast! services after other system services.

I have used AVG at one time but that was as much as a year ago. I have used avast without any problem until about a week ago.

OK, what other security software do you have installed?
Actually, first thing I'd do is download the latest version from Avast. Yours is out of date. While you're there, get the Avast uninstaller.. Then, whizz over to Grisoft and download their uninstall utility. (Should be the first download on the linked page.)
Disconnect. Uninstall Avast. Run the Avast uninstaller. Run the AVG uninstaller. Reboot whenever prompted. Install the latest download of Avast. Reconnect. Update.

The striked through question above will still be valid if, after this, you still have problems.

My Avast is now working. I don't know what I did to get it working. I guess it is just the electronics.

I'll second that motion. :D I use NOD32 on a computer that has one skin. There's no discussion about skins.
