In terms of ram, I have seen it as low as 12meg, but during usually use it uses about 24meg. I would consider it about middle of the pack in that regard.

Anyone using the new build(5.0.160) today? My ram use went from about 24meg with the older build, to 70meg with this new build. Anyone notice this on their machine?

I would expect the RAM usage to go up at some point because some of the components haven't been activated in the beta.

Re: Avast 5 Free, Don't know when but I do know how.

All I am prepared to say is that for most www users it will be difficult to miss.

some new info, the behavior shield should be implemented in a few days :) but it won't be complete as they will be creating rules as it progresses thru VPS updates.

it is still working very well. So the free beta is first, then the paid one then the suite. I mean, how are they planning on rolling all this out.

Why is it even necessary?

Is it developed by avast or did you buy the technology? :)

Licensing for Avast 5 free will vary depending depend on the individual distribution method. At least one version should be easier for "newbies" while simultaneously monitoring number of active installations.

I was liking Avast 5 until it started blocking my POP3 mail. can't have that so Avast is gone and Symantec corporate AV is back. Maybe when they fix this problem I will give it another run.

It worked fine for me until the last refresh version now it blocks it 100% and I can't find any way to force it to allow it.

Do you use a 3rd party firewall?

This is a fairly typical issue, the firewall detects that the EXE has changed (during the program update), but at the time the new EXE is starting it is too early to ask the user (because it's a service process that starts very early during the boot process) and hence the EXE is simply blocked.
