It's still version 5.0.221, and guess what. Started up the computer a few minutes ago, and the virus definition version is in red again. :( Maybe there's a bug in the bug. *puppy*

I dunno if there are any rules active for it yet, I could be totally wrong though. For more info on how the Behavior Shield works take a look at this post be vlk.

I switched to admin, to re-install, before re-install did a check: guess what BB activity. Next switched to LUA and now I had statistics, from last week also visible o_O.

Very low on CPU (only file and behavioral shield, file shield not checking on reads). Disk activity is lower than with other AV's checking only at write (I allways deselected on execute and read). First time in more than two years I have an AV which checks at program execution also.

Amazingly efficient on a XP rig

Yeah they have a really good product at start. Their cache technology does a very good job. On my system only 46 files are scanned (real time shield) after a reboot with default settings - amazing. Also their web shield is top notch.

no details yet, but according to vlk, most if not all the reported bugs lately have been resolved as well as a few "new" things, but no behavior shield yet :ouch:

Ok, this is the third day in a row that I get a pop up notice from avast 5 just after the initial startup of my PC, about a rootkit found. There is no information about the rootkit. The Action to Take has two options, Delete Now (recommended), or Ignore. Below that are two more choices to check....Do not tell me about this rootkit in the future, and Submit the file to the ALWIL Software virus lab for further analysis.

I have been choosing the recommended delete now, and checking the submit box.

Why am I getting this pop up? Is avast 5 actually detecting a rootkit every day? I've never had anything like this with any other AV.

It could be a FP or it could be malware that re downloads it self every time you log on the web. Only way to be sure would be to get more info, Hijackthis might be helpful. If you can find out where the file is (Might be in the virus chest) Try getting a copy off to Alwil. So they can find out if its Real, Bug or a FP.

It was in the virus chest. I deleted it. Let's see if avast notifies me again.

@Brocke......No, I haven't asked at the avast forum yet. I will do that later.

On another note........In the main GUI, the program version was in red. I clicked update, and after a restart, I now have version 5.0.239.

EDIT.....The darn rootkit warning just popped up again.

    .
Well, you never know it might really be a rootkit. I would definitely submit it and do some Google searches on the file name. What is it called?

If its happening all over again I would defiantly be contacting Avast about it. Even if its a FP that could be bad for other users if they are running into the same thing.

There is no name or location when I get the pop up warning, so a little difficult to do a Google search. I do check the box Submit to Awil.

I've posted on the avast forum also. I will be contacting avast support to see if they can figure this out.

I ran a scan with two different anti-rootkit software. Both came up negative.
