new thread also for the beta:

    http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=67766.0

    Hello,

we have just released a new beta refresh, version number 5.1.822.

This build should generally solve all the issues reported/found in the previous builds.

    Download links:
    Free AV: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.1.822/setup_av_free.exe
    Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.1.822/setup_av_pro.exe
    IS: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.1.822/setup_ais.exe

(Users of a previous beta can go to this build by simply invoking the Program Update feature from within the avast! UI.)

    Thanks
    Vlk

This last build is very buggy. At first behavior shield wasn't working, then the whole program (well at least the GUI part) crashed when i tried to register it.
Will have to wait a bit for next build that has this fixed.

I'm using 5.1.822 build, haven't seen any problems yet. I'm running File, Network, Script and Behavior Shields only. I installed over top of the previous build instead of a fresh install, maybe that makes a difference?

Is there any way in Avast 5 or Avast 5.1 to limit the file shield to only scan files and attachents downloaded from the Internet (the way is possible in MSE)? thanks!

The Web Shield scans downloaded files. The File Shield only scans as files are opened/executed.

So if a new file is manually downloaded to certain folder through IE (a pdf, or a rmvb file, for instance) it will be firstly scanned by the Web Shield and only then by the File Shield when its opened/executed?
    thanks

it will be scanned by the webshield first, then it will be scanned by the file shield wen its written to the harddrive (webshield scans it before hitting the HDD) altho in the file shield options u can set it to scan on execution instead of on write and execution

Behavioral blocker intercepts at least suspicious registry access. I was working on my wife's laptop today and set the Avast behavioral blocker (also running 5.1 beta) to ASK.

I was impressed, signed programs of Microsoft were allowed to do tricky things. It was quiet overall and popped three times when vulnarable registry keys were changed and once when a driver was changed.

I would like the option ALLOW and be Notified by mail (personal use). For the corperate market they could collect and accrue the signals/messages and offer a seperate intrusion analyser/monitor.

    Regards Kees

Once 5.1 is out and everyone will have the new behaviour shield they will go on collecting the information so they can make black/white lists and possibly also create some sort of auto-decide option I think.

Sweet, avast is really good, I've been using it for over a year now, and it's never let me down, works on heavy gaming rigs, netbooks, severs. etc

    Which time zone? :p
In New Zealand it is already 2011 for about 2,5 hours but in Hawaiian time zone they still have about 21,5 hours left..
