It is done so by design, otherwise people tend to just exclude everything they encounter. Been there, seen that...

Thats the reason I am back to Bitdefender free AV.
Light & effective, though miss some options.

You can restore and exclude in one click from Virus Chest though...

No, it doesn't... And this is one of the problems I have with Avast (and with other AV, because Avast is not the only one that decided that they know better than the users). Good thing that I don't encounter too many viruses/false positives on my computer, so I'm relatively unaffected by this lack of choice in Avast. :)

Lack of what choice? You can exclude stuff manually, you can exclude stuff from virus Chest or if you feel like it, set on detection action to "Ask" so it will ask you each and every single time what to do.

You are correct about all those, but I miss an option for "Ignore" alongside "Move to chest", "Delete" and "Block". After all, if you allow the user to move the file to chest and then restore it back, why not let him/her do this from the beginning?

Because i already explained that. If you make it "too easy" to do, people will just use that because they'll just want to run the file they downloaded. I've seen that few times before. After user repeatedly downloaded the same file and avast! deleted it, he went and disabled avast! becaus he desperately wanted to run that file. If you place the choice of ignoring it in the detection dialog, you kinda defeat the whole purpose of having an AV...

RejZoR, what you said comes from a frustration about the way users make security decisions (and I agree with you here, because I know how people act). But I think that an AV must not override the decisions of its users. As long as you told the user about an infected file and suggested a course of action ("Move to chest" as a default option), it is up to him/her what to do about it, and not yours or the AV maker.
Even more, people must not loose confidence in their security software. After an incident like the one you described, people might even ask for a complete removal of the security on their computers because "it gets in the way", and that is a side effect that should be avoided.

Why? Why such people bother to use AV's if they think they know more than a program that looks into the binary?

Can I use avast! Free and set different settings for each user account, on my PC, or all users will have the same?

Original Grimefighter team was kept alive :) That's why there are minions dressed like cartoon characters. Grimefighter was originally developed by another company, which avast! acquired.

Not to mention the lame pun. Hope they go back to focusing on the things used for actual cyber-crime.

It's not supported on Windows 8.0 and 8.1. If that's what you mean.

Issue with Avast Free Antivirus 9.0.2018: user (and therefore malware) can disable protection via tray icon without a password prompt. Doing so with the same settings with 9.0.2013 results in a password prompt. I'm using Win 7 x64.
