Tested RC2 on real system XP SP3 32 Bits with todays 103 malware pack by Spywar on malwaretips.

Deepscreen analyzed app 40 malware & detected 0.

Dont know if all the aspects of Deepscreen are fully working or not?

3 Beta & 2 RC & still Deepscreen totally ineffective & zero info about it by Avast.

It seems really strange that one day it was brutal in Auto Sandbox detections and then it just falls off the face of the Earth and doesn't detect a single thing anymore. I don't get it.

I see Deepscreen in action using Windows 7 Start Orb Changer v5! Deepscreen block it as a malware unfortunatly i think is a false positive! Anyway think that they can easly tune this feature in future!Even so i love this new version! :)

According to folks over at Avast forum deep scan is working fine. Of course they directed towards a file that it would detect. I should send them a screen shot of kill switch with malware running after deep scan keeping me "protected" by scanning it. Not impressed. I understand it's only a RC but they assured me that it was working. :cautious:

Deep Screen is their cloud based real-time analysis, right? It may be purely a back-end problem and nothing to do with the new client.

By the way, do we know what "hardened mode" is and why it's recommended for inexperienced users?

"Hardened mode “automatically blocks execution of binaries that would normally be deepscreened (Moderate level) or even allows only execution of programs that are well-known to FileRep (Aggressive level). In a way, it brings the whitelisting concept to the consumer AV space”."

No, DeepScreen are local analysis backed up by online services. I have yet to see any life from this component...

We still need to wait for a official announcement I guess...But I must agree with most replies here. They need to drop a word about it somewhere so that we dont waste our time throwing malware at it when it is a dead rubber because that kind of sucks

But guess what, guys at avast forums are just normal users of avast so until someone from avast team comments on the forum about it we cant confirm or assume anything.

I am seriously losing my patients now with this.

I cant wait to see deepscreen fully operational either (it isnt i dont care what they say) but until then just use hardened mode on agressive. I might even use it even when deepscreen is working.

Exactly what is DeepScreen supposed to do that makes it so important?

Good Afternoon! Deep Screen...Love these Buzz Phrases...some Scribe in Marketing came up with. To me it sounds like a protective barrier you'd buffer your deep freeze with...to protect against freezer burn...just couldn't resist! Lol! Sincerely...Securon

It would be better for someone else to answer this...but its supposed to be a suped up successor to avast! Autosandbox with new technologies like dynamic binary translation.

So far there has been no "suped up" its on the same level as auto-sandbox was which to me is a bit of a dissapointment

    Still love the product though.

The only thing deepscreen is doing since yesterday's VPS is that it is detecting file shredder setup and some other things as malware

Also this started since yesterday when something called "PEPA" was added, see:
    http://www.avast.com/virus-update-history

Have not tested with malware yet...so no idea.

I've seen DeepScreen work, and by work, I mean when I ran a program, DeepScreen alerted me, analyzed the program, then let me run it normally.

Is that not happening at all for some of you, or is it running but failing to detect malware?

Yes it's doing pretty much that for me. It's not detecting anything. The little thing is spinning around and then it lets it run. Hopefully it kicks in when the final version comes out. I'm not seeing the magic at the moment.
