Reading your posts here @ Wilder's I consider you a member that has things to offer and say. So I'll be really happy to see more of your tests. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

And all depends on the country of origin of the links. Kaspersky for example, might prioritise and specialise in european links (eg. where their greatest market share is from), then later add links from US.

This become more evident if we compare products that have a big market share in Asia and those that have big market share in Europe and the States. :thumb:

It's been noted before, that Avira doesn't check for

    fraudulent software
    security privacy risks (SPR)
    games
    jokes
    unual runtime compression
    application (APPL)

under default unless ticked off on install, could explain it's poorer showing

Are that all malware links/samples already detected by Avast's signature?:ninja:

    Igster,

Is there a way you could fit in A-Squared Anti-Malware into your test?

That would have to be interesting.

(And maybe Avira with all threat categories checked, unless the purpose of your test was default settings only, and as this choice of checking all categories comes up in the install itself,I don't know if that counts.)

to assume that when an av/as pops up saying that it has successfully blocked a malware you can be 100% certain that nothing remains or got through is erroneous for i have seen mbam/sas etc to prove that wrong ....

After each test, I scanned with MBAM to see if anything was left. This was part of the test, and I apologize for not stating that sooner.

Perhaps. Maybe you could provide you own tests for comparison?

I will try to include A-Squared next time as well as the other requests.

And as mentioned, all tested was done on default settings. I did not change anything after installing.

The king?? I would disagree on that. It's good, but no better than Avira, Avast, and Kaspersky with zero-day malware.

I doubt Kaspersky , AVIRA or avast! can beat Norton's Insight or SONAR2

With each and every new unknown file you get this message first :
    1.PNG

Then this one (if you click "Details"):
    2.PNG

    Upon file execution this:
    3.png

One must be either stupid or naive to run the file.

And ... Even if execution happens ...
    4.PNG

Neither AVIRA , nor avast! have this

so ur telling me Norton basically blindly pops up about every file it doesnt know?... :cautious: if i wanted something that doesnt like any .exe, id just use an Anti Executable program, i dont need my AV popping up about everything it doesnt recognize without some actual reasoning to the popup. but KIS has a HIPS, so u wuld get alerts about programs actually doing something which id say is much more effective than a simple reputations system (that was about how u said Kaspersy, Avira and avast cant be as good as Norton)

Yes . But every file has a reputation based on many factors . You can read about Quorum in Symantec's blog and site (if you want to).
Additionally , Norton has a huge whitelist (thousands of files are checked by Symantec and labeled Norton Trusted + even more legitimate and known files have proven Good reputation). Very small chance to mark a legitimate program as unknown.

Norton's yellow pop-up is for Unknown files + files with proven Bad or Poor reputation

Norton IS 2010 has HIPS and behaviour blocker , too .
+ Pulse updates (every 5-15 minutes)
    + in-the-Clound Quorum
    + SONAR2
    etc.

Noton beats Avast and Avira easily in real life tests-dynamic tests of both AV-C and AV Test dynamic test(No Avast).
    http://blogs.pcmag.com/securitywatch/2009/12/av-testorg_releases_real-world.php

Only KIS can compete with NIS for the time being. The behavour blocker in Avast is not that efficient and thus it cannot be a top AV. As for Avira, I'll reserve my judgment till Avira 10 is released. Avast and Avira are very good AVs but they are not great AVs!

Edit: Norton also beat Avast, KIS and Avira in Denis Lab test.
    http://community.norton.com/norton/...Virus-Protection-2010-DTL-Report-consumer.pdf

So if you are making a test to compare products, you cannot occult NIS which was the AV of the year 2009 according to AV-C.

It is not even a behaviour blocker (Shield) - just something that keeps an eye on the stuff but not taking part in the real game , if you get it.

To add something to my post above - I don't say AVIRA is bad product . One of the best but not the very best one
