I tried scanning with McAfee, Panda and from PCpitstop and they all locked up during scan. Computer seems to do ok otherwise, no hestiation or lockups running anything other than Virus scan.

    Hi malamb,

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe028.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe

O9 - Extra button: SideStep (HKLM)

    O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00719/sb028.cab

Then reboot. Some spyware, but probably not the reason.
I'll ask someone from PCPitstop if he is aware of anything that could cause that behaviour.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thanks I would appreciate the help, by it locking the machine it gives me the impression that something has got in to the AV program and not allowing me to scan. But everything else seems perfect. Stange scenario.

I got Panda AV to run perfert on the machine, and as a matter of fact the machine operates faster and smoother since I stopped using the other band AV.
    Thanks

It sometimes takes a bit to find the AV/AT/firewall that gets along best with your system, but it's worth the search. :)

    Regards,

    Pieter
