Kaspersky Lab was also worthy of the Product of the Year Award. It statistically achieved the same results as Bitdefender, except it had won the award previously.

Sweet! Close one but BitDefender was a bit better that Kaspersky.

When can we expect the list of this year's participants?

Not suprisingly, AVG finished in the "Also Ran" category again.. :p

Do people still actually look at these test sites and believe the results? I thought these tests had died along with things like Anti-Trojan products. Feel like I've jumped back 5 years.

I buy an AV based on these tests

too bad ESET dropped form what it used to be the best a few years ago to a very average AV

BullGuard sucks bad as well even though it claims to use the Bitdefender engine according to every review I've read online AND THIS

And AVG (the company) seems to be just fine with that, but that's just my personal opinion! :)

    Congrats BitDefender.

Now they just need to work on their English a little (both software and on forums) and improve their customer service and they'll be pretty well placed next year.

I've tried Kaspersky AV. It's a little bit slower than BitDefender and "heavier" on the CPU and Memory usage.

not a little bit, it's heavier by a big margin I couldn't stand that thing for long my fast snapppy laptop became a turtle with it.

Bitdefender smokes them all as it is the most secure (along with KAV) but it excelts with how light it is

no offense but ill agree that bd is lighter than some but its not the lightest av out there by a WIDE margin and that's my opinion. i know you found a av you love but you seem to want to push it to everyone on the planet. i see you post this over and over and over...... i really dont mean any offense but it seems you want to bash everything else every chance you get please dont take offense to my post but let people chose what they want to.. i tried bis 2013 on many systems which are way more system than most people will ever own and it still slows them down (again my opinion)....and everyone can have their opinion so if people come on here and say its not light you dont have to correct everyone who says that...

Most people don't pay attention to them, and people with a fair degree of security awareness, only pay marginal attention to them. I doubt anyone makes purchase decisions based solely on this, and if they do, well.. Good luck with that. As for people constantly pushing their AV on others, realize that some people are fragile, and need to justify purchases to everyone else. These are the same people that buy a fancy grill for their backyard, then invite everyone over to watch them cook on it. It's an ego thing really. What they don't realize is, nobody really cares. It's only your ego that cares, and needs to be comforted. With wisdom, and age, these things are learned. (sometimes)

There is no doubt that BitDefender and Kasperski are tops at the moment, and for somebody making a decision for the first time as to what AV to choose, they deserve to be the first choice.

Considering issues as price for sure, and arguably resources, speed, and the fact that an AV is not my first layer of defense, I'm still satisfied about Avira's performance in most of the tests.

It's good to see BitDefender doing so well. But I don't purchase or use security software based on testing results. The lightness of the product is by far the most important consideration for me with test results being a second.

My humble advice to all new BD users. Please do, full system scan - after executing it the BD suite become much much lighter.
I observed few times - that some person installed BD found it is heavy (and at the beginning it really is) and uninstalled it almost instantly without giving it a chance ;)
Also disabling autoscan (during idle) can help.

But regarding the BD performance and reward from av-comperatives. I full agree with rewarding BD - because its performance in all areas during 2012 was very solid. In my opinion this AV made such road as Norton products went few yeras ago (starting from 2009) - from bloated software to light and modern top product.
I hope that from this point BD will focus now on more on their customer support, and developing new line of products. Until now it seems that BD is only add-on to their engine, which is their own source of revenue. I hope that this is going to change..

A lot of hard work here on all of the products; their strenghts and weaknesses highlighted.

Although the fact that previous winners cannot win again seems a little odd to me!

They can win if they deserve it. Now Kaspersky wasn't better than BitDefender, they were almost equal. Except for bitdefender scored slightly more in real world tests and kaspersky won last year. So it was fair for bitdefender to win the award.

I have the Same Opinion with you! :thumb:
Since 2008, AV-Comparatives have greatly improved their Tests.
    They are pretty much alive...

BTW, if you have more Reliable Tests
    than the ones of AV-Comparatives,
    then, SHARE...
