Authorized Symantec reseller scams users into buying security software

    This is a first, I believe? That is an authored retailer engaging in this type of activity.

    The Silurian Tech Support website was taken down "shortly after" [the scam was discovered]. Still, apparently better vetting is needed to begin with.

    Unfortunately many of these scammers simply lie about their affiliation with a legitimate parent company - usually Microsoft - and people believe them.
