    Good morning,
I'm using trial ATI11 home. My problem is that I've lost (by pc crack) the encryption key so I've an Hdisk full of "green" ultra-locked files/folder...
I hope that True Image is able to recover my very important files... so first I encrypted a new file then I created a ATI file/backup of only this file.
When I restored it in an other folder the file was yes decripted but of zero lenght..
    Can you help me please?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello FrancoB,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup software

Could you please clarify the situation? Have you created the hard drive image prior this situation?

Please note that Acronis True Image 11 Home handling partition/hard drive images and file/folder images in the different way.

    Thank you.

    Hello FrancoB,

I'm afraid that there is no way to remove encryption just by backing up and restoring encrypted files. Acronis True Image 11 Home is not designed to decrypt such files without the appropriate key.

    Thank you.

    Hello FrancoB,

have you ever heard of "Elcomsoft" (http://www.elcomsoft.com/aefsdr.html). This Software claims to recover EFS-encrypted files in case of emergency..

    I have never tried it....

    Regards,

    Volker

    Hello Volker,
thank you: aefsdr works only if the encrypted key is present somewhere in the pc...
If you known other possible solutions please tell me: I'm desperate.

    Hi,

    what about http://www.lostpassword.com/efs.htm.

    It says:
EFS Key retrieves EFS-encrypted files from NTFS partitions. To retrieve the files, the encryption password must be known or SAM database must be present.

Sounds like all you need is the password?!

    Hi,
really I didn't encrypted any file....I found all my data disk encrypted (all file/folders are green: they are true windows efs file).
So I've not entry any password: in my opinion my xp became insane.
May be I'd need a decrypting progam.

    Your opinion?
