    ESET NOD32 Home 32bits 4.0.474

If option as in subject/title is choosen (category update>advance update setup>update mode>update file size>ask before downloading update
NOD32 asks user accordantly to the input value.

But the notification pop-up doesn't have any window caption.
No chance for normal user to determine which application is asking for.
That leads to irritations of the kind "wants any maleware to have download?"
    Very bad habit.

    From the Help Documentation:

This is not a default setting and should not be used.

Sorry, but the help won't help.
Plenty of applications are normally installed on each machine.
How should the user know it is the NOD32 asking for download permission?
As mentioned, the pop-up doesn't show any id of the owner application,
it just asks for download permission.

    Where ESET does claim this?
If ESET claims this, where is documented the reason of this recommendation?
If ESET does claim this, why not to remove this setting at all?
    One irritation less.
What are and how many of all other non-default settings shouldn't be used as well? Why not to remove them all from preferences?
Let't us do the live simple!

    Yes, lets :)
if the default setting that should not be used in normal operation is not changed then it will not prompt but if it is changed then the onus is on the whoever changed it to remember that action

That message box should be more clear indeed, the pop-up as it is now could be for any program. I have pointed this out before.

I have changed such a setting for twenty applications.
Each of them behaves on the pop-up in exact way as nod32 does it.
Which one of all those apps is asking me now for download permission?:D:D:D

Which non-default settings else shouldn't be changed?
Why not to remove all them from settings dialogs if they are not allowed/recommended?

change them all but then don't moan something broke. The reason they are there is to deal with exceptional, out of ordinary, situations. I think it is better to have a grown up AV rather than one that takes all the decisions for the user and hides interesting, to some user, settings. Should the box be clearer, yes it should; is it a big deal, not at all.

Well the option as addressed in this thread activated.
    Currently NOD32 AV 4.0.474 installed.
Question if to download some MB popped some times.
On third pop-up the download permission has been given.
Download sown in progress however without having observed whole the time. No final confirmation.
Upon that system shut-down, some hours switched off,
now system started again. NOD32 AV still claims to be 4.0.474. What happened with that download?
Why has it not been applied?
It seems not to work very well.

No PCU has been released to update the core program to 4.2.xx.
The pop-up you allowed was for normal signatures and components updates.

The ask before installing an update file is not default and as I posted further up this thread should not be used.

If you require additional assistance, please contact ESET by phone, or by submitting an online issue ticket request

How large are update file sizes

    Hello,

The dialog box for prompting to download to download updates past a certain size will be redesigned in a future release of the software. Thank you for your enhancement request.

    Regards,
