    There is tray icon pull-down item to select and deselect automatic updates and no other control for the update behavior is otherwise available in the UI or settings.

    I contacted support to find out how often the updates occur. Not quite able to believe the response, I figured maybe something was getting "lost in the translation" (German, English).

    I resubmitted my inquiry and can verify that AA-M updates the definitions "automatically" upon a system reboot and only then. Their support confirmed if a system remains on 24/7 the user must manually select the "check for updates" item in the pull-down...
    "If you never reboot your System, you can take a look manually if Updates available."

    Either that is the actual default behavior or support is wrong. Whichever it is, it's sad. Very sad. :'(

    On their site, they have mentioned that Emsisoft releases at least five updates per day.

    @Boyfriend (Well, that's awkward.)
    Emsisoft, and Ikarus for that matter, can release updates 1,568,202 times a day but if the client doesn't check for them by itself then it's not automatic. Duh.

    You misspelled "Duh."

    But seriously -- I agree with what you said but it's odd that "automatic" doesn't mean "automatic" in their GUI. GOOD grief!

    So if you've got Emisoft's Anti-Malware, then it's pretty much the same thing?

    THANKS

    Same thing as having Ashampoo AM? Not exactly, with Emsi's AM you get a2 + Ikarus most recent engines... Ashampoo's engines are kind of out-dated...

    No. They are not outdated.
