Exactly! Depending on the browser and how it allows you to configure it, like having different profiles, I'd say 99% of browser attacks are nullified, if for most of your browsing you block java, javascript, plugins and a few more stuff, but those 3 parts are the key.

Now, about the subject of this thread, no, antiviruses are not useless. Like RejZoR mentioned, they have evolved. They're not the same tools they were years ago. They are valuable assets, whether free or paid, to millions of users who otherwise wouldn't be protected at all.

Just keep in mind folks, don't rely just on an antivirus and then come complain it didn't protect you. It won't protect you 100%. A layered approach is required.

"Conventional" AV. There are any "conventional AV" left ?

I am not aware of any paid products that are just antivirus anymore. Every one adds at least one extra layer.

Have you seen the behavior guard (or whatever it's called) alert?

For myself, they've not been installed on my PC for 3 years now.

Dont have any issues either,so guess it depends on the user behind the keyboard.

Yeah, i got quite some PDM (Proactive Defense Module) popups. And the version tested was KAV 7.0 so it's not all that useless even though it's not the very latest version.

No, as it's currently mostly limited to rootkits and exploits. For normal malware, there is nothing (yet).
