Apple disk encryption security

do you guys know how secure the non public disk encryption is Apple provides? I'm asking because I can read all over the net that you shouldn't use BitLocker on Windows because there is a "backdoor" in the encryption and if Microsoft is forced to, they give out the master key to decrypt.

Is Apple Disk encryption (FileVault2) more secure?

 

I wouldn't trust any encryption software that isn't 100% opensource these days

 

Easy to use for all, or open source. Those are the two options we have today.

It uses OTP only? No password you enter, you're just supposed to keep the OTP file safe?

That... doesn't sound all that great to me.

 

Would an optional extra layer of password encryption make FinalCrypt more attractive (in case the OTP key file would be disclosed) ?

 

Storing away an OTP key file isn't exactly easy to use in the same way that FileVault is, you know.
