We have AppGuard on my 85-year old father-in-law's PC. My father-in-law was once very technical (an Engineering graduate from West Point), but unfortunately he suffers from Alzheimer's now and has difficulty grasping new concepts. One of his remaining joys in life is corresponding with his old classmates (who inadvertently send him infected email attachments).

Anyway we've had AppGuard on his PC for the past two years and he doesn't even know it (we took the AppGuardGUI.exe out of the run registry key - AppGuard's protection is applied as soon as the service is started, the GUI is only needed to modify policy) and removed the AppGuard shortcut from the desktop and start menu. AppGuard has kept his computer malware-free for the past two years (with one exception - my husband was doing some maintenance on the PC and forgot to turn AppGuard back on - within two weeks there were several viruses on the PC).

Once you get AppGuard's policy the way you want it, you can remove the GUI (AppGuardGUI.exe) from the HKLM run key and you will not get any AppGuard popups. Email AppGuard@BlueRidge.com for more info (the key location is different depending on whether the OS is 32 or 64 bit). If you need to change the AppGuard policy, just start the GUI app on demand from the AppGuard Program File's directory.

BTW, AppGuard is a great way to safely extend the life of XP. Check out this white paper on our web site:

It seems that I installed a program that must have had some malware. I restored my system to a week ago and now there is no excessive use of my cpu by Appguard. Another reason to be very careful when using the Install Protection Level.

    Thanks for your help.

That is also why it is advised not to use only AG but in a combo with some AV.

One other thing that came to mind is when I get to my Dad,s place and on to his computer.....He is very, very fussy about knowing how many processess/services are going to be added, and how much Ram is going to be used....Can someone give me the "hard facts" on this as I know he is going to ask me this, and I want to have a good answer for him...I,m sure he has 4GB..

Thanks for the info, but I don't really need to do that. An occasional popup does not bother me.

AppGuard has very little impact on performance and doesn't use a lot of memory. I have an XP VM running AppGuard and here are the memory and performance numbers I'm seeing:

    Hope that helps.

Definitely its the lightest. I have never seen this consuming more than 8mb in my Win8.1 system.

I will send in a few minutes. I just came back to my system after a couple of hours, the fans are spinning fast and Appguard is again consistently using 15% to 19% of my cpu.

I wonder why it's so high (relatively) on my XP VM then.

I have been using AppGuard without AV's or AM's (real-time), and I couldn't be more happy with the results... :)

My system is so light and efficient...

    Thanks ;)

Yes, I forgot that question, I'm about to buy license from AppGuard but I'm interested how does AppGuard and software firewalls get alone?
Is AppGuard compatible with all software firewalls?
I honestly don't know what software firewall to use with AppGuard and NoVirusThanks exe radar pro.

As I've already posted in another thread, I am intending to continue with my Windows XP system for a little while longer before getting a new 64-bit system. The fact I run AppGuard is part of the reason why I feel comfortable doing that.

In order to have a smooth upgrade path when the time comes, two of the criteria I have applied to my choice of security applications are:

    1. Is a 64-bit version available?
    2. If yes, is the protection on 64-bit the same as on 32-bit?

My original decision to choose AppGuard was partly based on the fact that the answer to both these question is in the affirmative.
