It isolates and contains malicious code, allowing users to work, bank, shop and surf online without concern about exposure to viruses on the public internet or on trusted websites....How does it isolate and contain Malicious code?

Well, it's not at all clear from the ordering process that that's the case, Barb. I appreciate your generous offer of a free upgrade and I've been in touch with Lisa about this because I now have a licence for six machines and only have a use for two!

    Regards

    1. By preventing the malicious code from leveraging vulnerabilities in Guarded Applications to alter critical system components and files.
    2. By preventing (or Guarding) executables from launching from user-space.
    3. By preventing unauthorized Installations.
    4. By preventing Guarded Applications from reading and writing the memory of other processes' memory.

Lisa will take care of you for sure. She is the right person to handle this.

    Barb, thanks for the license.

Windows Media Center still does not work. However, since you will be making available an option to install AG with Memory Guard no problem.;)

    Thanks,
    Robert

P.S. Though IMO, just use the picture on your opening screen as the systray icon. Just have it a tiny bit larger and have the 'A' or 'AG' in white and the rest turn color depending on the level the user sets. Get rid of the check mark and lock. No need to be fancy...simple elegance!

Dear Barb, I tried repeatedly to get an answer about the MBR guard in the previous thread, which was closed by mods, but I didnt get any.

Is it an embarassing question from a theoretical/practical point of view?

Was the MBR Guard taken away in vs.4 because previously not 100% valid?

Do the Blue Ridge programmers deem there's no defence?

Nobody cares anymore about the MBR?

Or perhaps the new version is taking care of the problem without the need of the MBRGuard?

In this case why offering an optional tool and when is it available?

Make no mistake,I am glad I bought AppGuard, I am using it and will continue to do so,but I would like to know.

    Hi Karad

I don't know BlueRidges reasons, but I know one or two cases where Appguard installation was blocked because MBR guard couldn't be installed on the machine. By separating them Appguard could install.

I too would like to get the new MBRguard when they finish it.

Possibly a better option would be to deny Guarded Apps the ability to open a handle to
    Code:
    \\.\PhysicalDrive0 - symbolically \\.\GlobalRoot\Device\Harddisk0\DR0

Thanks for trying to answer my question Peter2150,but i don't think BlueRidge motives were a few install failures.

I am trying to understand the reasons about a very critical aspect of security.

It seems very few are interested about it anyway,in spite of it being a very important problem, including Blue Ridge (since Barb did not answer for days).

In the 10 years or so i've been reading this forum I've seen posts raging about certain vendors and sometime a total

leniency or infinite patience towards a few others,c'est la vie!

so for this version 4 appguard, I can just set protection level to medium and am good to go...unless I see something is not running right in which case I'll need to go to the settings and make adjustments?

btw- upon install of version 4, I get a popup about version 3.5 being available...I'm assuming some sort of little bug

My re-format of C:drive has hit a snag. The original issue was Sandboxie and "FireFox is already running" meaning no sandboxed FF browser.

Sandboxie forum advised the following fix:
    http://sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=5737&start=1
The fix worked until the PC went into sleep-mode. On waking AppGuard sprang into action on trying to launch the sandboxed FF browser. And so the "FireFox is already running" is back.

What action is required to tell AG to turn a blind eye?

Did you give read/write access to sandbox folder ?

Goto Guarded Apps -> Settings -> Add Sandbox folder -> Give Read/write access

No. Not sure what from Sandboxie to add to Guarded apps. RE: quote in my first post, The blocking is to do with #2 & #3 about locks. That's what the .cmd was written for.

Adding the Sandboxie folder to guarded Apps generates this:

This is the only setting I am aware of to make Sandboxie work properly with Firefox. AppGuard considers c:\sandbox folder as user space, so it denies Firefox to write to that folder(which is what your exception shows even). You are basically giving read/write permission by the above said setting.

Maybe someone else can help you.

    Hi Alf

You need to have c:\Sandboxie in the folder area of the Guarded app tab, BUT DO NOT add any Sandoxie stuff as guarded apps.
