The AppDefend Configuration screenshot should make the differences clearer. While there is substantial overlap with PG, both programs have features not available in the other (e.g. PG includes human verification, application hiding and limited registry protection (AppInit DLLs only) while AD covers self-termination and network access).

In all fairness, a detailed comparison should wait until AppDefend is fully released.

To tell you the truth I always thought that DiamondCS and Ghost Security were the same company.

Well it's an understandable mistake Rasheed, after all you see the same people hawking the products, "beta-testing" the products, same supporters etc and besides the fact that Jason was once with DiamondCS, and was perceived to be one of the lead developers of ProcessGuard.

It's interesting now that he has produced a competing product that despite what Paranoid2000 says, is pretty much indentical.

Yeah I dunno why but I somehow thought that the companies were related, but in fact they are 2 heavy competitors. :ninja:

Let's keep the discussion centered on the two applications. Thanks.

    Re: Appdefende or Process Guard

Can someone comment on the security and vulnerability differences between having RegDefend and AppDefend working in tandem and having ProcessGuard. I would like to know if there are, in fact, protections that ProcessGuard offers that Jason's products working together do not. I already know which author I trust more, but I need to make my decision based on which is more secure and since I'm already stuck owning ProcessGuard I would like some confirmation that it is worth paying more money to make the transition.
    Thanks.

    Re: Appdefende or Process Guard

The primary difference between AppDefend/RegDefend working together and ProcessGuard is obviously the registry protection provided by RegDefend. Since the registry controls many key aspects of a PC's operation (e.g. autostart of applications, application configuration, and so on) it is an area that does warrant monitoring and protection.

    Blue,
Thanks for the insight. Your comment seems to indicate that AppDefend/RegDefend working together provide all of the protections offerred by Process Guard plus additional registry protection that Process Guard does not offer. You did not expressly state that AppDefend/RegDefend working together provide all of the protection that Process Guard offers but it seems that way from your reply. Could this be clarified for me?

    Hi Dalles,

Search in previous threads, Jason already made clear what
the differences between PG and AppDefend are.

And there are no problems if you use all three of them.

I am using Ghost Security Suite (RD + AD) and dropped
PG because i use Tiny Personal Firewall 2005 Pro
which has all PG features built in.

These can thus also be used together without a problem.
