    Is there a way to update the KL AOL AV? Can it be updated from the KL update site?
    Thanks,

    @zopzop,
    since norton 2007 is alot lighter than the older versions and panda 2007 is alot lighter than the oler versions then hopefully mcafee will follow suit with there 2008 version.
    @Jeff,
    since the chkdisc issue only affects a very small amount of people i doubt that is the case.
    i havent had windows need to run chkdisc for months now.
    so I thought it had been fixed in the later build
    ever since i installed 614 of kis6.0 windows hasnt needed to run chkdisc.

    lodore my friend, it is still there or Kaspersky would not be actively searching for a solution with Microsoft. Also in the beta of 7 when you select beginner at installation in the end it gave you just 3 options in the PDM. On the released version, it now gives just 2.

    I guess it was good that the AOL AVS program refused to install on my PC after all. :D I was a long time user of McAfee until last October when the DAT file would no longer update. AOL users, according to the previously mentioned article:

    Since I have a B.S. in Computer Science and given the past history of AOL, I think I will pass again. :isay:

    Hey Jeff,
    that is a very good point.
    but since ive heard that version 8 will have a brand new engine bulti from the ground up for speed and efficiency then it shouldnt really matter.
    no ichcker or iswift will be in version 8 or so i have heard.

    Hey cool, well not so cool about AVS. But now I'm running AVS alongside McAfee Personal Firewall.

    And just to add to speculation, maybe it's the start of a New COLD WAR!

    Good question? But I think vendors that use Kas are going to bail fairly quickly. I can see F Secure using Normans engine in the not to distant future. Ooops.:rolleyes:

    My McAfee Virusscan plus updates every day sometimes twice a day. I would think that would be sufficent to keep it up to date..

    Hi again Jeff,
    your missing the point.
    iswift and ichecker is what is causing the chkdisc errors.
    iswift and ichecker are used to create a cheksum so if the file hasnt changed it isnt rescanned.
    but kaspersky version 8 will no longer use ichecker or iswift.
    instead they are rebulding the whole engine from scratch which means its very fast at scanning files which means it doesnt matter if it rescans files since the engine will be alot faster.

    I do not think the new McAfee based AOL is bad per se. But the question arises of support - There is no proper support channel specified for this McAfee based AOL product, which could mean that indeed we are getting a product for free, but with caveats....:doubt:

    If I remember correctly, AOL is not the only company to have quit using the Kaspersky engine. PC Tools also did it; most likely due to licensing issues.

    You can still get definition updates. However as far as program updates AOL AVS is @ 6.0.2.621 which is the latest version of KAV 6.0. Since 7.0 was just released I would not expect 6.0 to be updated.

    Hi EK,
    Does it update definitions automatically or must one do it manually? If manually where do you get the updates?

    KAV 6.0.2.621 is not all that bad. :thumb:
    At least folks can use it for awhile.

    Best,
    Jerry

    You hit the nail on the head! I think we are finally making progress with getting Kaspersky to do something about the chkdsk problem. AOL is not stupid. The chkdsk problem is making the news now and AOL doesn't need that headache. Sure, it could be that Kaspersky all along planned to offer their engine with AOL for only one year...but the timing is such that I find that hard to believe.

    Don't know if it is related but GDATA also dropped KAV and went with F-Prot.
