Thanks Detox ;) Yes it was OK BTW

Hi Lurkerella ... I was going for a Captain America type Theme (Comic) ~the defender of the good~ kinda thing ... I guess if I blended in the Cap. Amer. shield with another layer ... I would've been more obvious. :)

hate to disappoint you but if you take the trouble to go trough your member list, you'll find out that most of your members never posted at all... talk about misleading the market...

Which is very much like most every other forum out there. But what you probably don't know is that each month we delete all unconfirmed member accounts here - ie. those that never completed the registration process. Roughly 120 to 150 accounts get deleted each month that fit into that category and the total member count is reduced by that number.

As to those that lurk or haven't returned in a long time, well, we're happy to leave the light on for them, and quite a few do pop up active again after long times away.

you're contradicting yourself.. read it, and go trough member list again you'll see what i mean ;)
but hell if it makes you happy have 20 zillion (not) posting members.. i don't care. :)

There's no contadiction. Each month we run a cleanup job that deletes member IDs that have not completed the registraion process after 90 days. So, prior to that job running, the current member count at that time includes those member IDs. After running that cleanup job and deleting those members, the total member count is reduced by the number of deleted member IDs. If you happen to be looking at the forum stats section during this process, you can see it go down. A lot of forums don't do that. We do.

And just to save someone from manually counting them all, at the time of this post, out of the 29,726 members listed, 16,341 have a post count of 0, while 13,385 have a post count greater than 0. As forums go on average, that's not too bad either.

Well. Well. this is what I think. I do not think a member (or forum) should be valued based only on their (its) posts. A member can lurk, come learn, PM others or just...well not post. I joined without posting right away. What on earth is the big deal. It is far better to join and not post then to join and start causing trouble or posting inapproprately. I chose to live by my sig. If you would like to contribute or have something of help to us by all means join us. :)

Dividing the numbers of members "sans posts" by the total number of registered members gives you the percentage - just under 55% haven't posted. This is hardly what any decent statistician would consider "most," to be perfectly honest. I guess I somehow also haven't figured out what "market" there is to mislead... I mean those registration fees really add up

This is a funny discussion! Actually, it's a non-discussion, because like Mercurie, LWM and Detox said, "What do posts have to do with a good, no, make that GREAT forum?!"

If forums only went by the number of posts, what would be the point? How long would that forum be in existence? What kind of members would it attract? What kind of 'atmosphere' would it have?

I find some of the people who post the least sometimes say the most!

Only the young seem to be 'crazy' about the number of posts, I think they forget a forum isn't a GAME, where you win if you have the highest score, beating other people's scores - vanquishing the 'enemy', using those high numbers to feel a sense of power or entitlement.

They forget or haven't learned that people judge you by what you stand for and whether your words match your actions.

Some people can do that in one post.
