    Hello Rasheed187,

FYI, approximately a month or so ago, I brought your two criticisms regarding the latest version of DS to the attention of their developers and CTO. The response that I got is that these concerns will be addressed in a future build of DS.

    Rasheed187,

I've found like CogitoErgoSum the support people in Drivesentry have listened to my previous criticisms so I believe it will get fixed. I noticed an early review of version 3 on Softpedia here: http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/DriveSentry--Review-74137.shtml

You know what the thing is, it´s way too far from how I would like to see a HIPS made, I get annoyed quite easily by apps who won´t work or look like I want them too, DS is just not for me, and it will never be, most likely.

CogitoErgoSum, do you know why the download page doesn't show cost anymore nor the two versions it showed before. Is it now completely free?

Thanks for the info, but you are partially wrong, it is a free download, though the program auto accept\deny feature isn't, you have to pay $10. CogitoErgoSum had already posted the same download link.

Yeah just tested that myself too. Same result :(

    EDIT:

    How much is DriveSentry?

DriveSentry is free - if you choose to purchase a license then our signature database will be downloaded to your local PC. This considerably speeds up the process of checking for potential threats whilst on or offline. In addition, DriveSentry will automate decisions to allow or deny trusted/un trusted applications to access your PC without bothering you with unnecessary popup's.
How do I buy the full version of DriveSentry?

To purchase DriveSentry, simply download and install the software. Once DriveSentry is running, you will see a 'Buy Now' button on the toolbar. Clicking this will take you to our secure servers where you can purchase a license quickly and easily. DriveSentry will activate automatically without you having to wait for an install code.

Thanks for the info, I am aware of that information already since I have used DriveSentry before. I didn't want to install it to find out if it was still the same payware like before, thats why I was asking CogitoErgoSum, who has been testing it recently.

    Hello dja2k,

I have downloaded the latest version of DriveSentry(DS), but have yet to install and test it. If I had to guess, the full release version of DS will revert to Lite(free) at the conclusion of the thirty day trial period. In any case, I have emailed support about this matter and will update this thread when I receive an answer.

I've installed it and its running well. Haven't seen any issues yet though I am not that experienced with DriveSentry yet. Are there any recommendations on any settings that have to be made to it to make it better?

I decided to try it (again) on my Vista. All was playing well, I thought, until I noticed that ShadowProtect´s two resident agents, that starts as services, didnt load at startup. Nor could I start the service manually... Maybe I somewhere blocked them, but I dont think so. I usually read the alerts, and I couldnt find any rule for the block.
Anyone else with ShadowProtect experienced this?

    *edit*

I reinstalled Drivesentry and the problem was no more. It might have been a freeze software i tested that caused it.

My DriveSentry XP install still playing nice with Online Armor AV+ and Sandboxie. I haven't backup nor restored using Acronis True Image to see if DriveSentry messes with that, but we'll see.

    Hello dja2k,

Under the "Options" tab of DS's main gui in the "Popup Options" section, you could change "Show simple popups" to "No" for more detailed information when popups appear. Lastly, in the "Scanner Options" section, double check that the "Automatically quarantine" feature is enabled. Lastly, if you would like to get a better result in GesWall's demo test, you can apply the changes that are described in the following links.

    Hope this helps.

When are they going to fix the memory leak? For me at the moment, it's a *deal killer* until they get it fixed.

I hope they have more success than the Mozilla folks have had with fixing Firefox. After many upgrades over a period exceeding 3 years, Firefox still leaks.

i ran drivesentry a few months ago, and immediately uninstalled it when i saw it had established a live connection to google servers. my first clue should have been the googgle logo somewhere in the GUI (no longer remeber exactly where).

and i am aware drivesentry "talks" to it's database, which is fine with me, i'm accustomed to that kind of connection as i have run Prevx 1&2. in fact i was hoping drivesentry would replace Prevx for me. maybe just my box? doubtful, have not seen that connection (was running OA at the time) since uninstalling drivesentry.

"The First Firewall for Hard Disk Drives" (if I remember correctly the way they advertise it).
I tested about 1 month ago. I didn't find it that impressive so I could spend my money on it.
I remembered that the HIPS of OA had poped up always before DriveSentry gave me a warning.
I threw it away, as I had no added value to my security.

My test drive of DS showed it to be a good HIPS. Well-designed and stable. Nicely configurable. For the time being, the memory leak is a show stopper. Once they fix the leak, DS will be a top tier HIPS. They need to change the name, however. DS has become much more powerful than simply a file protector.

That makes no sense. If u r using two HIPS in real time, one of them is supposed to give alert first followed by the second. It doesn,t matter which one alerts first.

The memory leak was a show stopper for me also which was irritating as it had proved very good, easily equaling Threatfire. The best real test I have ever seen with Drivesentry was when I ran a keygen for some DVD 2 DIVX ripper and the keygen tried to write a driver (sys) file to my windows folder. Drivesentry popped up and flagged it as major threat it's behavioral part labeled it as a possible rootkit. I'm also running Antivir which didn't f* report a thing!! I found out later that the keygen was copying a new rootkit strain. Funny thing was I denied the I/O but the keygen still gave me a key :)

Anyway ... some good news ... I have been running a new beta the guys at Drivesentry have sent me. Version 3.0.2.7 and found the following:

1, Memory leak appears to have gone! Memory usage fluctuates as Drivesentry caches parts of it's local database while it's background scanning which makes it look like a leak.
2, Memory usage is significantly reduced it's taking up 8mb under XP. Vista it's 25mb (Firefox is taking up 34mb!!).
3, Annoying start-up wizard is gone.
4, Background scanning now inspects archives e.g. zips
5, Lots of annoying bugs have been fixed.
6, Quick scan option to check viruses in popular infection areas, run-once, windows folder etc.

I'm told it goes live on their site on Thursday (3rd of april).
