All day today Google searches have not been working properly.

You click search nothing happens, you click next nothing happens, I have to constantly run refresh on the browser to get Google to load and I thought this was a browser problem on one of my boxes but this happens on two different computers.

This is the first time I've ever seen Google with problems....

    Have you noticed it?

It's 09:48 am here & Google seems fine to me. Have you checked other engines to see if it isn't your ISP or hub/router connection or something?

Seems to be working normally here - I'd clear out all system/internet temp files and try again

Well two different computers, running two different systems, XP on one Linux on another but both with Firefox.

I highly doubt given the situation, there's something wrong on both systems...

Also get this, when I'd click the search button, something I forgot to mention it wanted to download a php file called, 'search.php', LOL.... That clearly shows something was up.

I'm surprised no one caught Google was on the fritz... :argh:

Could your router be compromised? It sounds like malware to me.

My box is sparkly clean I'm a Tech, I clean malware from people's systems for a living. I'm not the one that gets infected, you call me when you're infected. ;) Sorry don't mean to sound like a fat head, but I know for a fact Google has been acting up for the past few days.

    Everything works fine except Google.

It's still acting up on me today, but I'm running slightly older versions of Firefox.

I was running Firefox 3.6.3 on XP and 3.6.4 in Slackware Linux.

But right now I'm trying 3.6.6 on XP which I wanted to stay away from.

Unless FF 3.6.3 and 3.6.4 have had some weird bugs in them, not sure if that could be the case, but they worked fine everywhere else too, except Google, so I doubt that.

Anyhow I'll see if I notice anything in 3.6.6.

Like I said before clicking the search button wanted you to download a file, 'search.php', so the way I see it there's some code issues going on still.

About once a week I have problems with Google. I'll do a search and it comes back with a blank screen and a link that says "Try Again." Sometimes this last for several hours before it works again. If I try Bing in the meantime it works okay.

OK, I've never experienced this 'Google' event so I really have no idea. My knowledge of computers tends to begin & end with Windows Vista for Dummies....so if you don't know what's happening, I certainly can't help you.

I hope you sort it out.

I had a look, I'm not aware of anything happening at the moment with some sort of web malware like this.

By the way, what's the next best search engine to use besides Google?

Well since I know my box is clean, it's either these versions of Firefox have some sort of bug, or Google is acting up, some code problems, or it doesn't like older version browsers and they've done some revisions to code to not play nice with an older browser, etc...

What I can say for now is Firefox 3.6.6 isn't showing any issues.

If anyone loves this sort of stuff, web and search engines, have a play with Firefox 3.6.3 and let us know if you see issues too...

Strange as i'm using an even earlier v3.0.13 and it's fine with google :D Have you tried different google HTTP's ?

Also try disabling plugins/addons and see if it makes a difference ?

Just used plain old http and I didn't have any addons and plugins.

As I said earlier if you noticed this happened on two different systems, one on my XP box, the other on Linux...

No biggie it's either the browsers or Google and since I updated FF it's not bothering me, BUT I'd also like to know what others think is a better search engine?

    THANKS

Thanks for taking a look at Scroogle's problem Das. - I don't know that there's a better engine than Google but believe the power has gone to it's head - Fortunately, but only until I see if Scroogle is allowed to continue,
I found that, https://startpage.com/ with no triple w, does the job
    without needing Javascript switched on.

ahh startpage.com, never heard that one, thanks...

By the way is Bing any good? At least for me at the moment, since all I've ever used has been Google, Bing has a familar feel and look that's comfortable to me...

That's the M$ engine - Reviews say it's OK - just doesn't have a 'HTTPS' page like 'Startpage', but at least it has 'WOT' - Will probably use it sometimes
because it doesn't need Javascript, so long as I can steer clear
    of Google and Yahoo.

    How good is this StartPage?

    THANKS
