Windows 8 currently costs only $40 to upgrade from Windows 7 which is not really a lot but if there are any good deals out there like the $15 one i will pull the trigger just for the sake of it and . . . christmas. :D
Can anyone help me out there.

cheapest I've seen is $29.99 at Newegg and that deal is dead now...check with slickdeals.net as that's where sale info will surface...MS has an offer where if you upgrade for the $39.99 regular price they will throw in $70 worth of apps from their app store. I don't know many details beyond that -

Besides maybe another $29.99 deal I doubt there will be much else in sales for W8. And it seems like many of the lower priced offers are actually initially paying more (like $60-70) and sending in a rebate form.

Damn, Newegg had it for $29.99?
BTW, i don't want any offer that needs to redeem any kind of rebates since i don't live in the US, i'm unable to get them. :D

Just to be clear, it is not an upgrade only from 7, but from XP, Vista and even 8 RC, in other words, you do not even have to have any Windows, which is kind of cool.

I just got and installed the $14.99 version of Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
There are a few caveats though.
    1. you must have installed a prior version of Windows.
    2. your computer must be new.
    3. must have your installation code for the system presently
    on your computer.
    4. There is a post on this board about this subject.
    5. Since Windows 8 is a monster you will need to see the
    specs before you buy.
    6. Microsoft has a program that helps you with the install.

See the other post as my memory on the nitty gritty is lacking.
    Good luck

I also got the $14.99 Offer, and I bought it. Some people say they cant do a fresh install because it needs to be installed over a previous version of Windows.

This is in part perfectly true However! there is a work around:cool: Installing the upgrade version of Windows 8 Pro can be done in 2 ways, 1: Upgrade over a previous version like windows 7, or 2: Install on a Formatted Disk, which May or may not then give you the Windows watermark lower right hand of the desktop screen. If the Watermark appears, just insert the DVD, and choose upgrade, Once this has finished installing Click properties on your hard drive, and use disk cleanup to remove the previous version. There is also another method not related to the previous 2 options, and that is to just install it as normal, and If you have installed previously with a Microsoft Account, the Activation will Sync over, and your good to go

    moontan,

No, you have to have a 64 bit OS to be able to download a 64 bit Win8.

You can install the 64 bit Win8 Release Preview and then download 64 bit Win8. $40 is a good deal.

Edit... As indicated in my previous post, you don't have to have an OS installed to upgrade to Win8.
