I'm using the screenshot capture integrated with IrfanView. It's good, but sometimes it's just not so convenient. So I wonder what you guys are running? I'd like the program to be free(no bundling of xx toolbars would be great), frequently updated and light on system resource.

Is there any candidates you guys can think of? Thanks.

    My best regards,
    Tyler

my favorite is PicPick (because it is a 'swiss army knife' for graphic work) but it bundles toolbar unfortunately.
this is easily avoided with a decent firewall with warning for outbound connection.

    anyway,
    have a look here:

this is another one i've heard good things about:

Thanks moontan. PicPick is a great program, but the tollbar thing is really annoying. I've tried lightshot couple days ago, but the thing I don't like of it is it's online editor. Due to my slow internet speed, that can be a disaster.:'(

    Thanks for the info.:)

I use this, it's great, but beware that it won't work if you set your screen color quality to 16 bit or less.

Thanks JRViejo. I'm not sure if the last free FastStone supports windows srv 2008 r2. I used to run it on XP, and it's really great.

I think I might give Lightscreen a try. I like open source software.:D

    Thank you very much.

operamail, you're welcome! I'm running FastStone on Win 7 64-bit (Run As Admin) and being that it's portable, it might work. Both are worth a try. Take care.

One more tip, it actually works for 16 bit screen color quality if you set it to save in png format (default is jpeg).

Thanks. But still no luck here.
BTW, I tried PicPick, the portable version from Sosftpedia is very good. I don't have to worry about the toolbar thing. Alternatively we can download and upzip PicPick installer and then delete folders like $TEMP, $PLUGINSDIR and saveappdata.ini. No installation needed, and toolbar free:D

tnx for the tip m8! :)
i'm presently changing to an all portable apps setup, as much as i can anyway.

love PicPick; there's a whole bunch of nifty utilities included which are perfect for someone into graphic design/art.

Take a look HERE. Personally I used the freeware version of FastStone for a long time then switched to the paid version. SnapDraw is also quite good.

The Hammer, no it is not, and thank you for pointing it out, because doing an .exe Properties check, I had set its Compatibility Mode to Win XP SP2.

I had forgotten all about that!

But it will work on a Vista/Win7 64 bit?

It is working on my Win7 64-bit in Compatibility Mode, yes. The Last Freeware Version site mentions OS: Win98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista and keep in mind that I stated the "portable" version. Give it a try; report back.
