We have discovered a new rogue anti-spyware product (AntiVirGear from AntiVirGear.com)that was installed via a ZLOB/MediaAccess Codec installer from an adult site.

SUPERAntiSpyware definitions set Core : 3305 and Trace : 1311 will detect and remove this rogue.

Thanks for the heads up and which is it antivergear or antivirgear? And congrats to getting a green check back from mcafee, like it matters but still:)

I would like to know too. Is it named to confuse users of Antivir products?

Hi, folks: Thanks for the in-time warning. I have updated the SAS. But this item is a AS, not a malware? Why is this urgent to post warnings on several forums ? I do not see it too often that author of any given AS app does come out to warn the general PC users. Does this rogue AS have more devastating capability than a single spyware ? Just my curiosity. Nevertheless, I thank you .

It's a new rogue that was just recently released, so when we discover these and they are not widely detected, we post in the forums to alert users.

Avira thinks that it is clean.
But note that the free scanner does not have any kind of removal function.

Nice and timely heads up Nick. Thanks for the report. What better place for them to test their new releases around at, eh? Next thing we know they'll try to solicit it as Bundles to some free screensaver program and the like.

As per the original posters comments you can remove it by downloading the free edition of SAS. :thumb:

o_O I downloaded and ran SAS with no luck at removal. Does this rogue spyware close your IE randomly too? does it try to send any info anywhere? I tried using Norton's directions for removal too but found none of the registry items they said to delete, is this thing already morphing??:gack:

We should remove all variants. Submit a support ticket here and we can have you run a customer diagnostic:

    hehe...this is interesting...

    AntiVirGear..."AVG" for short.
Their setup file is named: avg_setup.exe

Quite the possibility of confusion with AVG Antispyware... :p.

AVG Antispyware setup file is named: avgas-setup-7.5.1.43.exe

Using a clean pc, download SuperAntiSpyware Free and its latest definitions. Save the files in a flash drive or burn them in a cd. Install SuperAntiSpyware in the infected pc, update manually and then scan.

    Marvelous job, Super_ASpy :thumb:

And btw "zhanWest"... try to post here more often, or just browse. I do feel that this forum needs more feedback from Tangzhan's nook & crannies regarding E-rogue elements!

After all, a li'l bit of varieties makes the dishes seems more delicious! :D

True story! I downloaded this crapware for kicks about a month or two ago. It crashed on my Win ME box! I really had to laugh at that one. Perhaps they've worked the bugs out of this new and improved crapware. I'll go find out.

    Dave

BTW, SUPERAntiSpy, this crapware was "softy" clean. I imagine their site is good source for sigs, eh?

If it is abbreviated, it sounds like AVG, that's not good.
