May have spoke too soon about the update servers :p :( .

Installed the beta at home where I am restricted to dial-up. Connected to servers straight away but update speed was only between 1-4kB/sec with most of the time spent at 1-2kB/sec. Hopefully these are not the exclusive Premium Servers!!!!!!!

On-demand scan speed was not too bad; set to scan all files and scanning the same set of files it scanned faster (15 minutes) than Dr Web and Kaspersky (20 minutes) but was much slower than Command AV, F-Prot (7 minutes) or NOD (11 minutes).

:D LOL That would be the day! No I fear the only thing they want to hear from me is "silence". I am giving AntiVir/Classic a try again however. I again want to see for myself if there really has been any improvement. Again to set the record straight, I have never said that the program was bad, only that the server(s) "sucked". Also I have absolutely nothing against AVG, in case any one was wondering.

    Thanks
    Wildman
     :p :doubt:

The new AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic version 7 is available (you can download it from www.Free-av.com). It has a very nice interface (just like the premium version).

Hm, why is there no "Hidden" mode for updater? I know i've seen it in closed beta. But in open one you have only minimized and maximized.
Even if it's minimized, that popup tends to interupt full screen applications like 3D games...

Hm, mine updated extremelly fast righ now (11:45 CET).
Maybe because my ISP has foreign connection lined through germany (as far as i know). Also very good response times for update check.

There's something wrong on your end. And extracted location is C:\WINDOWS\TEMP sice you're using Win98...
But remember, SFX package will erase files when it closes...

The beta is using the normal Classic servers, you can see hourly peaks in the statistics as people started to updated hourly. There was a short 100% load period today at 12:00 German time, otherwise the updates should go smooth.

I think the Classic edition will not have a completely hidden updater by intend, but I have to verify that.

I downloaded beta7 for win9x but I see - when I manually extracted the setup file using 7zip- that htere are folder named 2k, nt and xp..
did H+BEDV incorrectly name the nt/xp setup file as win9x/me one

Stefan, will there be a trial version of the Premium AntiVir when it goes gold?

And if so will a trial version use the Premium servers and not the Classic ones?

At the present time potential buyers of the Premium version cannot judge the difference between the two servers. I would definitely consider purchasing a license IF I knew that the "exclusive" Premium servers were much faster than the Classic servers.

Server speed is more critical to those of us restricted to dial-up.

Hm, I just tried an installation (beta7PEC) on Win Me and it worked flawlessly, so I suppose setup should be ok for 98 also.

Blackcat, I have to ask about the trial, I would like to have that aswell.

Waters, the new heuristics are not yet included.
