I just installed Anti-Executable Standard v2.30.00.0317 after uninstalling the previous version.

    1. The AE-icon in the system tray is changed : lighter color.
    2. A new box is added in the Security Settings : "Allow CD-ROM".
    3. You also can change the name and location of the AE.log file
    4. Some unimportant changes in the GUI.

Study the AE-icon first to see the difference when AE is ON or OFF.
I'm not impressed by this program upgrade. I hope version 3 is less boring. :)

If they done nothing to add scripting protection along with executables then i won't be updating. Quite pleased with the version i been using.

I always get skeptical when a new release by any security-ware comes out that doesn't raise some noise (PR) over a new technique or added security measures like in this case scripts.

Is there an easy way to clear the log file?
    Thanks.

What happens if you get a standalone exe, and click this?

Most malware I've seen dragged into the box is a standalone exe, or bat, so when they try to execute themselves the way they were designed, like on a restart, at startup how will AE come into effect?

    THANKS

You won't even have the chance to click it.
    Read carefully :)

Well I just clicked a virus then AE popped up the window, so I'm not sure then. To me then I don't see the point of this because an AV would of stopped me sooner, unless an AV didn't detect it.

Why was I able to click it?

    P.S. Don't worry I'm testing this in VMware... ;)

Interesting, whether able to clik it or not, if AE stopped it's execution then AE is done it's job i think.

AV's embed much deeper as is their nature which gives them a leg up on the anticipation aspect, as I recall awhile back when using resident AV's, just scrolling down the page in a System32 folder, if an identified infected file even came into view, PRESTO! alert city and then snatch & grab & away with it.

Of course you can click on it. Question is did it run. If it did then you must have turned of AE to do something, and when you turned it back on it whitelisted the virus. This is the flaw in AE.

Let me guess: copy protection disabled or a file inside an archive?

If the high security with copy is on, you sure are.

You can download zip, and rar archives still, would be nice not to, I thought it won't let downloaded anything, but it lets me download in zip, or rar. I can also click on the zip folder without winzip or winrar installed and open it and drag a virus out onto the desktop, I would think AE should be made to not even allow this.

One other thing I found odd was if you wanted to install language packs, and as an example you are using this as a newbie, then until you understand what's going on here, you're going to be afraid of doing something legitimate too like this.

Is this with the security setting on high and all protections enabled?

    Yes...

Also AE just seems like a simple front end to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) for software policies that someone could set themselves in the MMC, I don't see much difference...

AE just seems like it just simplifies the MMC process is all...

AE is hardly a snap-in to MMC and besides that, when you create SRP's using the Group Policy snap-in it just checks the file extension, it doesn´t analyse the code as AE does.

With hight protection and copy/ delete protection ON, AE will never let you do it. Peter can confirm that. I am not using it otherwise I would have posted a screen shot of it.

I do confirm it, and can't post a screen shot as I've taken AE off. Actively beta testing makes AE a real real pain.
