I was unable to create a new partition through the Windows interface or DOS until I installed and used the OSS application. I then created a 30GB primary partition and set it active. I then Booted from the CD with the Vista 32-bit DVD which went fine up til the point where I select a partition to install onto. The newly created partition wasn't listed...any ideas on why and how to get around this issue?

    Thx in advance.

What is actually seen in the Vista partition viewer?

If somehow Vista doesn't 'see' partitions created with DD (which is doubtfull, but lets just say), I'd recommend you delete that new partition you made, and boot with Vista and let it detect the free space, and create the new partition with the Vista partitioner itself during the install.
