I root all of my Android phones and tablets. I don't do so to let me use software to secure my system more or block anything - I have other reasons. I use Du Battery Saver and have it setup to underclock my phone to save battery power when it is locked. Also, it allows for the various 3rd party app stores I have installed to silently install app updates. There are probably other reason I can't think of right now too.
I've recently ordered a Nexus 5 and I'm undecided whether or not I'm going to root the device. I'm coming from iOS so maybe I want need to root lol.
I second that! It's like admin and UAC, no problems at all. After removing all crap I really like my phone.
Good point. Unless you blindly grant permission for any app which requires Super User access your phone will remain secure.
Some of my Android phones and tablets have actually come from the manufacturer with roms that are already rooted.
Rooting is like saying to Google: 'Shut up, I know what I'm doing'. Therefore, I rooted my phone and my tablet.
Thansk for the clarification, I have always been curious why one would want to root their phone (also Nexus). Never did that on my earlier phones since it seemed to be too much hassle (even though I hated all the bloatware on HTCs phone I had) But now I have pure Nexus so I dont see any need to root.
No, even tough I could, but currently it is only possible officially through Motorola and I have to sign a waiver, voiding my warranty.
I've rooted my Nexus 5 and flashed Cataclysm ROM. I'm very happy with the results. I've also flashed a custom host file to block ads.
