Alternatives to MS Office ? Ease, security and privacy

For a Windows 7 computer I've been looking for an alternative to MS Office.

I'm used to an older version of MS Office, most of the time I just use MS Word ! I've done some perusing with regard to the alternatives, and I don't need the full functionality of the latest MS office suite.

What are the options ?
My priorities are ease of use, privacy and security. Not necessarily in that order. I certainly don't intend to use any cloud features !

For example, while I do use the Acrobat Reader (albeit an older version), I have disabled its access to the browser, javascript and some other features.
Some so-called insecure applications can be quite secure if you know how to handle them.

I've used this for five years on different computers I've owned. My present Win 7 desktop has only ever known OpenOffice & AbiWord.
