Aligning without the Alignment Tool

    Is is possible to align a partition using the following simple procedure, without using the PAT?

    1. Create a backup image of the partition.
    2. Delete the partition.
    3. Create a new partition using software that automatically creates aligned partitions -- for example Windows 7 disk manager or HDM 2011.
    4. Restore the image to the new partition.
