IMO you can override smart screen. anyway - adwcleaner needs to run with admin rights otherwise pointless.

I'd just like to mention how great this program is. It is great at getting rid of crud that Malwarebytes doesn't find, and significantly sped up a computer I ran a scan on.

I used to not like that fact that AdwCleaner did not show individual programs found. Sometimes AdwCleaner finds items I want to keep, and it make life a lot easier if you could actually deselect a particular program found, rather than just being given a list of file and registry entires for all items found. I did not like Junkware Removal Tool for the same reason. Except in that case, there was no option to deselect anything.

However, due to some of the computers I've had to fix lately which have large amounts of unwanted programs and advertising addons installed, I am quite happy to let them remove everything found.

I once viewed some of the potentially unwanted programs removed by AdwCleaner and JRT as not being much of an annoyance at all. They were not malicious an any way, and came with uninstallers. But, with the amount of junk I've seen installed lately, I've really come to dislike these "potentially" unwanted programs. It's been my experience that users end up with all these trial versions running at every startup. They don't buy them so they are left with the scan only trial version running everytime they start Windows.

I am considering writing my own software for removing junk.

I encourage users to submit false positives directly to developer. It's easy to do it with logs. Helps you and other users in future. Developer is kind in response and will fix false reports withing next program update :) (y)

That's the issue with FPs. You can't fix them unless someone reports them :(

Open Adwcleaner and check Quarantine manager from "Tools" menu. Why did you use outdated version anyways? Latest is 3.308

AdwCleaner is good, but it tends to produce false positives. Perhaps one of these affected the system. Keep backup images of the system, they are very useful in cases like this.

AdwCleaner sometimes kills your computer but the detection is superior! The false positives are annoying ...

anyone has the option to read the logfiles and to verify all items with a searchengine.
if some has a proper system with some decent software adwcleaner logs are empty and nothing to fix.

another user - same story: installing unknown software outside a box with admin rights and web access.

btw - adwcleaner didnt compromised my win 7 activation (testing purpose). so lot of riddles why yours, maybe your activation method may not valid.
