I have the following security apps on my system

    Outpost Firewall
    NOD32
    TDS-3
    Process Guard
    Ewido
    Ad-Aware (free)
    Spy-Bot S&D
    Spyware Blster
    Spyware Guard
Firefox (not really a security app but essential nonetheless)

All these do their jobs excellently but Im looking for a 'Step by Step' guide or something similar which will allow me to tweak XP-Pro to make it more secure than the default settings. I'm looking for things like changing local security policies, disabling netbios, and Telnet etc. Any pointers appreciated.

    Cheers

See the link in my sig ;) You'll have to google for the hardening tools, it counts as too many characters to include links. You can also use XPSecurity for the more common settings.

Good choices on apps, btw :)

Not quite along that track, however this is my security spec's, they work reallly well for me, very simple to use and maintain.

    Hope this helps...

Let us know how you go.

    Cheers :D

I'm fiding the markusjohasen (sp?) site on the whole good but also a little confusing. For instance the tips on secureing IE was great and straight forward.
But the other sections such as Tips on securing Services could do with more information esp for a newb like me. Its not clearly explained what the downside to disabling a service would be.

Any other sites offering the same information but in more detail? Or are there programs available which do the same thing (save me some time and effort :) )?
