In the BHO section of Spybot, I have this entry listed which is shown as legitimate.

    {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} (AcroIEHlprObj Class)

    CLSID name: AcroIEHlprObj Class
    description: Adobe Acrobat reader
    classification: Legitimate
    known filename: ACROIEHELPER.OCX

I was just wondering what it does and is it needed.

If it's legitimate then it must be ok to leave it there... but I would still like to know why the Adobe reader needs this to be installed.

I believe that bho lets Adobe open in your browser. I have it on mine and I will leave it.

    Thanks Ron,

I see, so that would allow a PDF file to open the Adobe reader from a linked website I guess... in which case I will leave it also.

I always like to know what the various files are doing on my system and little things like this always get me wondering about their purpose in life.

    Cheers.
