    Hi. I was hit with "virtual bouncer" which self-installed and then "invited" AdDestroyer.exe along for the party on my PC! I was able to successfully remove virtual bouncer but have been unable to remove AdDestroyer. Another internet link suggested SpywareBlaster which I have installed, but I noticed that it does not remove, it just protects from new instances (is this correct?). I am looking for anyone who has successfully gotten rid of AdDestroyer. I look forward to providing any details if asked. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help!

    Yes, that is mostly correct. SpywareBlaster doesn't remove infections, though it may disable them if they are completely based upon a known ActiveX control. (You see, the "kill bit" protection for spyware related ActiveX controls will prevent a control from downloading, or, if it is already downloaded, it will prevent it from running.)

    But, total spyware removal is always better than depending upon this feature. Also, some spyware is only "partially" ActiveX while other parts may be something else which would not be disabled by SpywareBlaster.

    So, the best thing you could do is to download a copy of HijackThis, run it on your system, and copy/paste the resulting log into a reply here. There are people here who can review it for you and they may be able to tell you how to fix it 100% just from that log.

    Another thing you can do is to download either (or both) Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D and see if they can clean this for you automatically. They may be able to, but, the HijackThis option might still be needed if they can't completely clean it.

    Both of these programs are highly recommended in the fight against spyware regardless of whatever else you use.

    Hi crawwurm,

    Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O4 - Startup: AdDestroyer.lnk = C:\Program Files\AdDestroyer\AdDestroyer.exe

    O16 - DPF: {486E48B5-ABF2-42BB-A327-2679DF3FB822} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binaries/IA/ia_XP.cab

    Then reboot and delete:
    C:\Program Files\AdDestroyer <= entire folder

    Regards,

    Pieter
