Ad Muncher works in many cases by modifying the HTML...

there are many different ways for these items to be added.

eventually as the reports come in we will get all of them.

big sites like to do things differently from the default.

but these filters will work as of right now on millions of sites.

Plus the #1 priority is to not cause page damage of any kind.

I'm very good at this so you're gonna have to trust me. :)

Then again I'd ask why are normal ads being blocked just fine, but not social buttons? If it's on my end, none of it should work, and none of my previous custom filters from manual blocking would have worked. You're awesome at support and I appreciate all the help, but I don't see how it's my end.

Most of them are getting removed. Occasional buttons still there (but nothing like what Mman79 is seeing), but a lot appear to be buttons with https links.

    This is why I'm stumped.

    it makes zero sense.

there is nothing special with these filters, there is no reason why they shouldn't work and they are working for everyone but you...

    Report each one.

as long as the main page isn't https I can remove them.

Well obviously these sites are doing things different...and they hate me, lol. It's not a trust issue, Jeff, it's a "Wtf is going on with this?" issue :D

Madness? No, good sir, this is Sparta!

Now that that is out of my system...you think you're stumped, I'm the one feeling like a complete idiot over here, lol. I was going to ask if AV web scanners would affect it, but, they'd have to affect the blocking of general ads as well. I need to step away a while and get other stuff done. I'll get back to this Sherlock Holmes novel in the making shortly.

Yes that absolutely could be interfering.

Try booting into safe mode with networking when you get a chance.

launch Ad Muncher and then your browser and test theverge using the latest dat file.

Jeffrey, you've lost this one from your filter list:

    .facebook.com/plugins/recommendations remove images/etc with url

Might help to edit the first post, and tell people where the .dat file goes.

Okay, I did all this, and the results are as follows:

Using your dat file with all the custom entries you originally posted, these buttons are blocked.

Using your dat file without the custom entries, they're all back on the front page of the Verge as before.

I assume you placed all these custom entries into the .dat file, so it should have still been effective. Nothing was loaded this test that could have interfered with AM. I'm quite honestly becoming weary of dealing with it, though I'm willing to try a little more since you've been so good about helping. I've done all I know to do and everything you've suggested.

Edit: I read my post and thought I better make something clear. When I meant with and without the original custom entries, I was talking about the ones I manually added in, not editing the .dat file.

This page has social network icons as well

    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/46e9851a-59cf-11e2-b728-00144feab49a.html

Also it would ROCK to have admuncher contain options to disable animated icons/avatars, or even to totally filter them based on image size.. This forum contains some annoying animated avatars I'd like to have purged, but random forums and stuff contain them too. All seem to be similar size, we should be able to nix them entirely.

Yours isn't so bad... I've seen some really obnoxious ones that truly make it hard to concentrate on reading the text in a post....

those social buttons aren't loading from the 3rd party sites so they aren't a privacy or security concern. Removing them would merely be cosmetic.

As for removing avatars, I'd be happy to help you just like I'm doing with social buttons.

Start a new thread for Ad Muncher and avatars and post forum links with particularly egregious avatars and I will let you know on a site by site basis which ones can be removed and assist you with custom filters.

Jeffrey, you may want to put a note in your first post that AdMuncher folders are not contained in AppData, but in ProgramData and another in Program Files (x86) ..at least it is on my Win 7 x64 system. So, which folder do I stick the custom file in? I want to give this another shot.
