Under the web browser tab I have Internet Explorer and Firefox selected with a check mark. Should I also have a check mark in active mode or will that slow my browsing down?

Check in Active Mode may slow your browser but makes it a bit more secure .

You should try yourself . If any problem occures , ensure you have nothing checked in "Active Mode"

I tried it. It more effective filtering but some sites dont load at all. I unchecked FF and IE in active mode and all is well. I guess its just a more powerful filtering but with that comes web page problems.
