I keep seeing this in Vista event log:

Activation context generation failed for "G:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\MFC80U.DLL".Error in manifest or policy file "G:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC.MANIFEST" on line 5. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0". Definition is Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Not too sure for vista, but everytime i've seen this on xp it's accompanied with alot of sidebyside errors in event viewer. Usually installing the visual c++ runtime fixes it. Try looking on microsoft's site for visual c++ runtime 2005 sp1 for vista (which is 8.0)....might help...might not....
