    Hey,

No sorry not interested I've used WS FTP in the past and it's not

    A) fast enough to tranfer files
    B) creates unwated entrys in registrys
    C) Interfaces lacks
    D) always screws up with file transfers
    E) rarely is able to resume files or upload correctly

and that's with the latest version of WS FTP LE, PRO.

    I use SecureFX from www.vandyke.com

Not only does it do regular FTP but also SFTP (secure FTP) and FTP over SSH (secure shell port 22).

Since FTP is so insecure with plaintext passwords etc, many companies and universities are replacing FTP with SFTP or FTP over SSH.

Ofcourse if you have nowhere to connect that supports SFTP or FTP over SSH, you'll be stuck using it just for FTP and it cost too much for that. (unless you are a student then it is $20 USD).

I personally own SecureFTP and would use no other client, but I do need to connect to 4 different servers daily that support secure file transfer.

PS It is more likely to frustrate the NSA than CuteFTP is ;)

I don't know about AceFTP, but CuteFTP is spyware.

Check it out...there is a spychecker on my Fighting Back page below.

    Peace,

What do you mean doesn't load? Doesn't load where?

It used to be, when I went to my page below just now "Fighting back," and ran the spychecker I came up with the following info, however...I could not reach the privacy page:

    "You Searched For: CuteFTP
    1 Matches Found (displaying 1 to 1)

Software Ad Company Privacy Policy Last Verified Remarks
CuteFTP Everad statement 03/19/2001 home page"

But I haven't seen that in the latest version of either cute or pro.

Another nice FTP client is in a program called Directory Opus. Directory Opus is a replacement for explorer.exe . It has options like dual folder panels in the same window, that allow you to view both your hard drive and FTP at the same time. I like the ability to just be able to type in a FTP address into Directory opus and it automatically connects to it like its a hard-drive on your computer.

I found Filezilla to be a very promising ftp client. It's an Open source project at http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla

Faster than Smartftp, complete interface and free.

(right now, see timestamp, the site is down for maintenance)

    hey Pilli,

I have tried Power Desk and really don't like the looks and feel of it. I've been trying out freewares instead of convetional shareware products and then buying them just to endup with a program I'm not going to use after a while ;)

    FluxGFX,

I use AceFTP extensively at work. I trialed every FTP client that I could find and found AceFTP to be the winner. The ability to have multiple systems open at once is a huge plus and with version 3, they have added scripting and a scheduler which comes in handy.

I know that CuteFTP is extremely popular, but I don't get it. I think it's kind of like WinZip...just goes on name recognition. The products that everyone are mentioning here are much better in my opinion than CuteFTP but my vote would be for AceFTP.

If you have any specific questions about AceFTP, please let me know.

    Bill

Maybe it's not. Like I said in the thread above, it came up on Spychecker.
You never told me what didn't load, was it my page?

    Peace,
