    web browser home page problems

Hi, not sure if this is the right department, but my internet explorer homepage that my browser is set to open up by default, is opening to a blank search engine page. I'm not sure how this happens. when i change the properties, it works the first time, but then afterwards, it goes back to the account: blank page. can you help me with this returning back to normal. thanks.

Re: web browser home page problems

We need a closer look at what's happening.
    Please download Hijack this
Copy it into its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Re: web browser home page problems

First download CWshredder from First download CWshredder from https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=14086

boot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    Delete these files
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\kfmnkge.dll

    and these folders
    C:\Program Files\NavExcel\

    Now Run Cwshreddder
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Reboot After running cwshredder and as soon as possible follow this advice:
Now as CWS Hijacks are normally installed via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM, just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

    then
Reboot normally & post a new hijackthis log where the O4 entry for jushed32.exe will appear so we can remove it

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R297 18.04.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

    R3 - URLSearchHook: iSearch Toolbar - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: iSearch Toolbar - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll

then follow instructions to remove the hosts file redirects that this pest normally drops https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=26670

    Re: website problem again

    Hi rufio12,

    Welcome to Wilders.

Before you start, please unzip or move HijackThis to a separate folder of its own. The program will make backups in the folder it's in. These easily get lost in a temporary folder or a folder with other programs.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E33CACFC-2055-4DBB-B344-B95E6A8E0D1E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gkkph.dll

Download CWShredder and run. Be sure ALL other windows are closed and use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

There also may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\gkkph.dll

Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    Regards,
    Kent

    Re: website problem again

    Hi rufio12,

I have merged your most recent thread *edit into this current one. Please do not start a New Topic when posting your HijackThis log. Stay in your current thread here until your problem is resolved.

To post your log in this thread, click on the Post Reply button down in the lower left corner of the last post made.

It is too confusing for everyone to keep track of what instructions have been given and followed when you post numerous new threads. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Regards,

sorry, the reason i post new ones, is because it's a new log, and new problem. i look at the old posts to see what worked last time, but it doesn't answer the problem every time. there's different things on my log so i thought i should post a new one. guess not. sorry. thanks for checking this out though.

to see if we can prevent the cws hijackers reinfecting you try this
a workaround seems to be install a good firewall, lists here http://www.wilders.org/firewalls.htm if you haven't already got one and block these ranges of ports, both incoming and outgoing 209.66.114.0-209.66.115.255 and 81.211.105.0-81.211.105.255
that stops the known cws servers responding or the hidden files on your computer updating. This works sometimes but not always, but it's a help. The problem with this approach is that some good sites might also be blocked
then when we have a guaranteed working cure for it we can advise how to fully remove it.

    First download CWshredder from https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=14086

boot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mopdc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mopdc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mopdc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mopdc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

    then
    Reboot normally

Download this zip: http://tools.zerosrealm.com/pv.zip unzip it to the desktop.
Be sure to have at least 1 Internet Explorer open, then double click on the runme.bat.

select option 2 internet explorer dll and press return
Notepad will open with a log in it

copy & paste the contents of that log back here in a reply

please repeat the runme bat and this time select 1 explorer dlls and post that log also

    then
Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them.

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R300 28.04.2004 or a higher number/later date

(Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

when running find.bat, should i extract files first. when i do that, and click next, and finish, it just brings me to one of my desktop settings/folders. there isn't a log or anything. it has a blank, black dos screen that comes up, but nothing on it. am i doing it right? there is a text file made, similar to a log, but it only has one line of text on it. this is it.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\HLPHP.DLL +++ File read error

    Hi rufio12,

Download and unzip this file to your desktop.
    http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/~merijn/files/pv.zip
In the pv folder run runme.bat
    Use option 7

    Then download, unzip and run:
    http://download.broadbandmedic.com/VbStuff/KillBox.zip

In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\HLPHP.DLL

Note: One will not find the malicious core .dll if one searches for it using
windows explorer or the file search engine. It is hidden, so that is why the copy and paste part is important.

IMPORTANT: Click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". On the next screen, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". Then it should show up in the window. If that's successful, choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

Run CWShredder again and AdAware as described here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=15913

Post back with a new HijackThis log.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi rufio12,

The download has been changed in the time between my post and you downloading it.
In the pv folder you should find appkey.reg
Doubleclick that file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {15173E28-FFF3-4F70-BA3C-BE8CB6F9ADA2} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcahddc.dll

    Then reboot.

    Regards,

    Pieter
