That's what I thought as well but like I mentioned I found some Hijack This forums that didn't treat it as such hence my concern, but based on what your reporting I probably don't have to worry about having a log examined.

Ahhhh, no thanks, believe me it's slowed down enough. With everybody saying it's a very low impact process it must be that something isn't playing well with the SpIDer module, hence the listing my other programs in my first post to see if one may be a red flag.

Actually I am only familiar with SAS, but try to disable all other resident programs and see how Dr.Web goes.

If it goes well, re-enable the other programs one by a day or two, so that you can find the conflict :)

Once the conflict is found, you can add that program and all of its components to the exclude list of SpIDer guard.

Try without the Threatfire. When I had Dr.Web+Threatfire, spiderguard would scan over 11000 files during my "normal day", without TF it's usually around 1000-3000 files.

Does there exist an uninstall bundle for Dr.Web? Seems I messed up and now I can't uninstall it :(

I allready asked it in Dr.Web forums, but perhaps someone here has faced the same issue and any help would be much appreciated!

SpIDer guard and mail are inactive and the dr.web folder in Program Files is 8mb!
    So I think I did a half installation :(

    Dr.Web doesn't show in Control Panel->Unistall Programs.

When I try to unistall from Start Menu Dr.Web folder it tries to install Dr.Web and not unistall it.

edit://Well ok seem to have solved it with a system restore :)

edit://But I still need you guys to install this properly! Check here to view my story and help me if you can :)

just reclick the installation and click
    repair.

    Also remember, drweb usually only
takes 10-15mb hd space once installed. :)

If repair does not help, close down your firewall and install Drweb again. This normally solves the problem.

I did sth better, I installed in Safe Mode. CFP must have been the issue, but it's ok now.
The only thing that wasn't installed this 2nd time was the SpIDer Mail, but it said it could be installed after a reboot and so it did!
So I guess I am all set!

To sum up and let me now if it stands correct:
    C:\Program Files\Dr.Web folder is 17.2mb big with 134 folders/files in it.

SpIDer Mail and Guard are working, did the Eicar test ok, did a scan ok, did the settings ok..

Well that's all, the auto-update is working by its own or do I have to do a setting somewhere?

    Thank you both very much!

You don't have to do anything, default settings are fine with drw.

Shouldn't there be a Dr.Web Scheduler icon somewhere in system tray or Start Menu folder?

Only the mail and the guard icon exist.

I can schedule a scan through Vista's Task Scheduler of course, but I'm still testing the integrity of my installation :D

So Dr.Web Scheduler (drwebscd.exe) doesn't exist in Vista, correct? There is nothing wrong with my installation? Just SpIDer Mail and Guard.

In the log file it says: 2008-04-26, 19:08:35 drwebscd.exe - not installed, skipped

Yup I've seen your thread how to schedule a scan in Vista and it is easy. I just saw a picture in AV screenshots showing Dr.Web Scheduler and said "Where is this on my Vista?".

Thank you for tolerating me :p

    edit://From Dr.Web forum:
-Does the express installation contain Dr.Web Scheduler?
-No. Dr.Web uses Vista's system scheduler instead of own one.

    I'm so happy :)

Here's my update on the Dr. I did some searching on some of the other A/V's as far as complete uninstallation and to make a very long story short there were still 'some' remnants of a few of the other A/V's I've used on my system, F-Secure left a s#*tload of stuff behind that CCleaner and Reg Cure together didn't get, thanks a$$holes(F-Secure)!

Which brings me to another question, why is it so damn hard for software companies to uninstall EVERY BYTE of data that they put on your machine, I mean come on this has been an issue for decades and is ridiculous.

I had unstalled Dr. Web and was preparing to try NOD32 v3 to compare the effect on the system and I discovered a weird thing, Windows reported Threat Fire as an anti-virus, hmmmmmmm. I went ahead and uninstalled Threat Fire, loaded NOD32 and used it for a bit the reinstalled Dr. Web.

I'd say NOD32 had a slight bit less impact on loading web pages etc than Dr. Web but I have returned and it is noticeably faster than before. Were the culprits the remnants fro the other A/V's and/or Threat Fire, who knows but for the time being it's off and the Dr. is back on, soooooooo when is version 5 coming out:).

Stable version 5 will be available from next year I guess. Old AV remnants suck!

Aren't the spiders in System Tray the cutest thing? :ninja:

    C.S.J small help!

The auto-update wasn't working so I scheduled a new one through Vista's Task Scheduler.

I set action: "C:\Program Files\DrWeb\drwebupw.exe", but that puts up a splash screen which I have to press OK every-time to update.

What parameters do I have to set in order to do it "silently"?

how do you know the auto update is not working?

drweb already places the correct schedule in task scheduler,

    Untitled.jpg

you can check if its working in the History section of the task scheduler.

It should have been there, I know my friend, but I had issues with Vista's Task Scheduler in the past too with another program, so Dr is not to blame.

I created new task with action "C:\Program Files\DrWeb\drwebupw.exe" and parameters /GO /ST /QU and it works great!
    Just updated to 367235 database!

Thank you once again for your unlimited patience.

    no problem.

with all the problems you have with many different things, maybe there is something wrong with your machine, or something you have installed does not agree with your machine.

if you feel up to it, backup your things and make a fresh start ;)
