I'd personally say they absolutely are - a2 is known for their FPs thanks to the Ikarus AV engine. ;) :p

brothersoft does have some trash. Softpedia and download.com tend to have software that are more trustworthy.

As MaB69 pointed out, those links show that some adware can be installed with both programs mentioned.

You guys have to remember that default a-squared flaggs not only Virus and malware but also suspicious files and even tracking cookies. Go look at the Malware IDS section. Yes it has some FP's but everyone that posts on this site should have enough common sense to dicepher a FP.

I like A2 free with the A2 service disabled for a good on demand scanner. I upload whatever A2 free detects on virus total for a second opinion on whatever A2 detects. Once it found a banking trojan on a friends PC, only 3 of the 40 anti-malware programs on virustotal detected it. Good freeware IMO and worth the effort of checking what it detects to see if its indeed malware.

You can send possible FPs to Emsisoft by right-clicking on the suspected files within A Squared. Emsisoft corrects FPs very quickly.

A-squared is quite well known in producing FP's and BTW you can upload those files to VT and have look for yourself:) :)
