A variant of the Firefox "unprotected items" issue

    I had much trouble this evening finding the reason why I had repeatedly unprotected items issues on Firefox, and I suppose I endangered my system hunting a hypothetical rootkit!
    Items were regularly unchecked (sometimes five of them, always the same, sometimes all of them). The Firefox "sites preferences" box was unchecked.
    At last I found that the Firefox Sites Preferences option was checked ...in CCleaner. This was my rootkit, I suppose ;)
