[ESET's Certificate of Appreciation thank you offer has been concluded no further submissions are being processed. The URL in the message below has been updated to reflect this. Thank you again for your assistance and be sure to look for additional opportunities to help test new versions of ESET's software in the future. AG]

    Hello,

ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0 launched successfully in no small part due to your efforts helping us test it and provide product enhancement requests, report bugs and work with us to troubleshoot various features.

As a thank you for providing such excellent feedback, we would like to send you a certificate to express our appreciation and gratitude for your efforts. In order to receive our certificate, please fill out the form at

with the following information in it:

    • Email Address
    • Full Name
    • Shipping Address
    • The URL(s) to message(s) here in the forum containing high-quality feedback, in other words, what you wrote that made a difference.
We logged much of your feedback into our bug tracking database during the beta test cycle, however, in many cases, we do not have your contact information.

Here is an example of a properly-completed form:

Do not include any other information or questions in the form as the employee receiving the information is unable to reply.

In order to answer any questions you might have, we have prepared a list of frequently-anticipated questions (FAQ), below. If your question is not answered, please ask it and we will add the answer into this message thread.

    ESET CERTIFICATE FAQ

Q1: What exactly is ESET mailing me?

A1: ESET will mail you a certificate on paper. If supplies of these become exhausted, ESET will provide an electronic version of the document for you to print out via an email attachment.

Q2: How long will it take to receive my certificate?

A2: Certificates will typically be mailed twice a week from San Diego, California via USPS First Class mail, so the amount of time will vary based on how long it typically takes you to receive this class of mail from that location.

Q3: I live outside the United States. Are you really shipping me a certificate?

A3: Yes, ESET will ship you a certificate, but it may ship by air mail or surface mail and may take longer to reach you.

Please bear in mind that ESET cannot mail certificates to countries in which we cannot do business including Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Liberia, North Korea, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan or Sudan or other entities subject to U.S. export control laws. Shipments to APO and FPO addresses as well as NGOs operating in countries are typically excluded, although you may wish to use your headquarters address to ensure delivery.

Q4: What is the criteria for receiving a certificate?

A4: You must have provided useful, valuable feedback to ESET during the beta test cycle. The helpfulness, technical accuracy, willingness to work with ESET and overall quality of your contribution is more important than the quantity of messages, so one very helpful message is better than ten messages which contributed little or nothing to the beta test cycle.

To ensure your submitted URL(s) are accurately read, please include direct links to the message(s), as shown in the example, above.

Q5: For how long will you provide certificates?

A5: ESET has a limited supply of certificates to mail, which will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. After that, we will send an electronic version of certificate by email.

In order to allow everyone a fair chance to respond, ESET will monitor submissions to the web page for about thirty (30) days. We anticipate that after this time all parties who should receive a certificate will request one.

Q6: There are a few individuals in the forum who provided an extraordinary amount of high-quality feedback during the beta test cycle, even well above and beyond other members. Will you be providing these members with something additional?

A6: From time-to-time, ESET does recognize forum members who have excelled and provides them with a small token of our appreciation when it is not solicited.

We may--or may not--provide some additional items beyond the certificate to those people. However, to ensure fairness, it will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Q7: I did not receive something while someone else did who did not contribute as much as I did.

A7: Response time is a factor. Please keep in mind that this means of expressing our appreciation to you is very much a "beta test program" in itself and we will use your feedback to improve the quality of such programs should we choose to use them again in the future.

All decisions made by ESET are final and not subject to discussion.

Q8: Someone falsified, abused or otherwise hacked my forum account to send a message.

A8: The forum administration team will be notified so the abuse may be investigated and properly dealt with. ESET will suspend the program or terminate it if the abuse cannot be resolved.

Q9: Where does the form data go after I submit it and how will it be used?

A9: The data submitted using the form is sent to ESET for processing. It will be looked at by a variety of employees and interns from ESET's marketing department to verify the accuracy of the URLs and to create and ship your certificate. ESET will not use the submitted data for any other purpose, nor will we provide the information to any third party, except to handle shipment of your certificiate, as applicable.

Q10: Why do you need my email address if you are mailing me something?

A10: We need your email address in case we have a question about your postal address, or if we need to send you a certificate electronically, in case we run out of paper certificates. We will not spam you or share your email address with anyone.

Q11: Can ESET employees, distributors, resellers, business partners or other people with a pre-existing relationship with ESET beyond that of customer receive a certificate?

A11: Full-time employees, part-time employees and contractors at ESET are not eligible to participate. All others parties, however, are welcome to fill out the form.

Q12: I participated in the beta test cycle and wish to fill out the form but cannot. What's wrong?

A12: In order to fill out the form, you must have posted at least one (1) message in the beta test forums while they were active

If you have a question which is not answered in this FAQ, please post a reply to this message below and we will do our best to answer your question.

    Aryeh ,
Some of us prefer emails to posting in forums . Some of us (including myself) have written and unfortunately still write tons of emails to your betasupport and support depts. about finding bugs and it seems we don't fall in the catherogy of posting in the forum and receiving such certificate ?

    Hello,

ESET communicates with beta testers in a variety of ways and recognizes their efforts in different ways. We are looking at doing some things for the people who communicated with us outside of the forum, but the primary goal of this activity is to recognize forum members who participated in the beta test cycle for ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0.

To make things easier, if you have not yet filled out the form, please just write that you are forum member HiTech_boy where it asks for links to messages. I think that will be easier than having you submit several thousand URLs. :)

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

"posted a message" - does that include a reply, or just starting a thread?

Beta testing included only v3 Beta or RC? Or v3 beta to actual version?

    Best regards,

    Hello,

To answer all the questions so far:

That means asking a question, assisting in troubleshooting, or even solving a problem and so forth. In other words, how useful was the information which was provided? As an example, someone giving a report "I installed the beta version of ESET Smart Security and it didn't work." does not provide a lot of information and is not very helpful in and of itself. On the other hand, someone who had the same problem and reported it along with a detailed error message (or screen shot), information about their computing environment and maybe did some initial first-level troubleshooting ("I think it failed because XYZ Antispyware was installed, when I uninstall that, ESET Smart Security installs correctly."), well, that's the kind of thing ESET is looking to recognize.

Anyone who provided feedback on a release prior to build 3.0.551.0.

Yes, of course. As long as you provided feedback you are welcome to request a certificate.

That's the kind of thing ESET likes to recognize, so fill out the form if you have not done so already.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

to the people who actually will get this, what will you do with it? tape in on the wall, put it in a plaque, put it on your resume?

Tested NOD32 Version 3 throughout the beta cycle. But submitted problems through the ESET website. Never through this forum.

It would also be a good idea if ESET warns with email those who they have approved to receive a certificate so that you know to expect it . Not simply you request one , like apply for something , but you never know if you got approved or not ...

    Hello,

To answer all the questions so far:

It is not quite as easy as stopping by the office, as we are printing and mailing them in batches.

This goal of this activity is to recognize Wilder Security Forum members who participated in the beta test program. See message #3, above, for more information.

ESET was happy with your beta testing. I, however, was out of town last week and am catching up with messages.

Yes, that is planned and messages should be going out shortly. See the comment, above, though to ProactiveLover.
