The Vista Firewall is fine. You can't get any simpler.

I have Outpost Pro (latest update of Version 6). It is stable. A few minor bugs. I have tried both McAfee and ZoneAlarm. Both McAfee and ZoneAlarm were easier to use, but McAfee wasn't that good and I had a major crash with ZoneAlarm. I migrated over to Outpost and have been using it ever since. They have had buggy versions as well. For the most part I am happy with the latest build to Version 6.

The Windows Firewall in Vista is actually pretty good after making a few modifications to the pre-packaged incoming and outgoing rules.

If you want to be able to dynamically identify and configure outgoing rules for programs, you'll want to look at something like ZA.

I would suggest the Comodo 2.4 firewall for the best combination of good protection and ease of use. Good inbound and outbound protection, passes the leak tests and quickly becomes a silent firewall after some initial prompts and learning experience.

Comodo 2.4 is not Vista compatible.

    chaos16,

    Check out this link:

    http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/

This is NOT a firewall, but a software application designed to make setting up rules, etc easier with the Vista built-in firewall. Sounds interesting. I have not tried it because I do not have Vista. Still on XP. There is a free version and a pay version. What I like about this is that there should be no compatibility issues since it uses the Vista firewall (ie. at least in theory).

When I eventually move to Vista, I will definitely check out this app. If anyone else has used it or has any feedback on it, I would also be interested in your impression and opinion. Thanks.

i saw a reviews of it at the PC flank site, and at first the review was good but when it started talking about the firewalls effectiveness, it said that it was very bad, is this a proper review or is it complete BS?

Online Amror is very easy. Take minutes to set up and only uses around 16k.

If you want to use Zone Alarm, you could add DSA from privacyware. However, is it a firewall, or just a HIPS?

Although I prefer LNS myself, between ZA free and ZA pro i'd go with pro.
    It offers better protection.

ZA Pro is good, just trial it for a while before buying to make sure you have no issues with it...

The Webroot firewall test you are referring to was about three years old,so the test is now completely irrelevant.

The current version which is quite different,is at least as good as any freeware firewall, possibly also as any shareware.:thumb:

A long thread about in Wilders

    Kurchatovium-Webroot is a good choice.

Webroot is the same as PrivateFirewall 5.5 a ,non released version.

I am researching both Firewalls as possible choices for PC 2, would you like to add something else.... more useful. Such postings do irritate me as well. Really I'm not picking at you tell me if there is something you think I would need to know. :doubt:
