    One of the comments to the first link article mentions Consumer Labs in the U.S. annual AV rankings. It so happens I was in my dentist office last week waiting to be seen and they had a copy with the 2013 rankings. Their top three were Avira, AVG, and GData. Very interesting I though since Consumer Labs is not fee based and about as inpartial an organization as you can find.
