As the subject says, I've had 4 updates in total today. Is ESET trying to make us safe over the festive period before they knock off to be with the families?

It's probably because of the number of new viruses that showed up during the course of the day. I'm not sure but I think that as soon as they find out about new viruses they send out updates for them.

I just got the fifth for today. Wild huh? That just goes to show the importance of staying up on web security. There are just too damn many jerks trying to mess with you or steal something from you on the internet.

I have a idea why he started this topic, he don't want that the ESET staff stay with family at christmas time. Some people think that AV programs not being updated because all the staff is at home with christmas. :D

I've heard there is someone at ESET 24/7 just to deal with updates. Who knows, maybe they are there doing developmental work too?

Marcos have said this before - ESET Labs work 24/7 .
However , with the technologies nowadays everybody can work from home , sitting everywhere , share resourses , work in team , etc - in case it is necessary ;)

On 12/21 I'm looking at Virus Sig Database updates 2740 & 41 but (5) Kernel entries, (3) of which are Statistical Info Sent In - Two Updates is very common so I'm thinking this is a little too quick a look at entries and not content.

    I got this one today.

12/21/2007 10:15:42 AM Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated to version 2741 (20071221). %BUILD="2042"%VERSIONID="2741"%DATE="131533845"%TIME="0"%VERSION="2741 (20071221)"

    I got these yesterday.

12/20/2007 9:15:42 PM Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated to version 2740 (20071221). %BUILD="2040"%VERSIONID="2740"%DATE="131533845"%TIME="0"%VERSION="2740 (20071221)"
12/20/2007 2:15:15 PM Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated to version 2739 (20071220). %BUILD="2038"%VERSIONID="2739"%DATE="131533844"%TIME="0"%VERSION="2739 (20071220)"
12/20/2007 10:14:51 AM Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated to version 2738 (20071220). %BUILD="2036"%VERSIONID="2738"%DATE="131533844"%TIME="0"%VERSION="2738 (20071220)"
12/20/2007 8:14:10 AM Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated to version 2737 (20071220). %BUILD="2034"%VERSIONID="2737"%DATE="131533844"%TIME="0"%VERSION="2737 (20071220)"
12/20/2007 3:32:47 AM Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated to version 2736 (20071220). %BUILD="2032"%VERSIONID="2736"%DATE="131533844"%TIME="0"%VERSION="2736 (20071220)"

Maybe it's something about timezone differences or maybe a typo. Anyway, I'd call that working hard at keeping us safe.

I just looked at today as stated, so you're right - 5 updates over 2 days. More than usual for sure, and as you say, Thanks ESET!
