My prediction is that Avast! 5 would get a lot of users in 2010 for the protection they give for free. Many here in india are preferring avast home edition as it is very light and fast (there is still a group that uses old PIII's and celerons with 512MB DDRS.. ). Also Avast will definitely win the title for being the lightest av of 2010..

And hopefully comodo will rise to fame too. There AV is pretty good (only for experienced users)

You bet it would be:argh: avast here is not only used as it is light and fast but also its quite easy and the most important one its FREE.
I even know one of my customer who still uses PII and 512 DDR1 RAM and still avast is quite light.

I'm predicting that A-squared 5 w/ the new Mamatu 3 will make it a more rounded security product. Also Avast will be awesome!

Some vendors will produce W7 enhancements in their suites that are not so new! Example full disk encryption for the basic W7 os. If user bought the top end W7 they would already have that. So what you saved on the os you spend on the suite.

My predictions as a still learning security "noob":

    1. I think sandboxing will gain some ground this coming year, not just for us "in the know" types, but for the general public. There's a lot to be said for "wiping the slate clean" instead of messing around with scanners that may or may not pick up an infection and may or may not clean it up if it is detected.

    2. HIPS will see or will begin to see its "sunset", what little sun it got in the first place. With the notable exception of a program such as DefenseWall, HIPS developers do not seem to see it fit to make these applications neither usable nor understandable by anyone other than an extremely tiny group of people. If "Joe" can't use it, it isn't going to sell.

    3. Anti-Spyware as well and stand-alone Firewall products will decline further as Anti-Virus companies continue to provide "suites".

    4. Oh, this one I'm going to take hits for, but here goes: Comodo will LIKELY not be around past this coming year. And, if it dies, it will be because it will have killed itself off. To avoid mod trouble and this thread going so far off topic it isn't even funny, I'll leave the details of my prediction out of it.

    5. I predict "in the cloud" will go on past the coming year a little, but, just as the "green movement", it will be but a passing fad, looked back on as "Wow, that wasn't a bad idea actually, but practicality was lacking, and wasn't that chaos when the server farm got owned?"

    6. Microsoft will be thinking up Service Pack 2 for Windows 7 *giggles*. Come on, you all know it's true.

    7. Given Googles' unquenchable thirst for data and the CEOs' recent comments, Google will lose some respect, and MAY, just MAY begin to lose its top dog status to Bing or someone else when it becomes finally clear to everyone that Google long, long ago knocked to the ground and kicked dirt in the face of the motto that got its respect to begin with.

    8. Google OS will sink like the Titanic IF it ever becomes available to start with.

I could think of more things actually, but I'll quit here to give your eyes a rest:D

I think 2010 and 2011 will be the big year for more free antivirus programs.

I think Trend will release a free cloud antivirus like Panda.

I think Computer Associates and McAfee will release a free antivirus.

I predict that at least 5 out of 7 (probably all) of your predictions will not happen.
    But perhaps you were joking.
    You must have been.
